Visitation will be Tuesday, April 22, 2014 from 5 PM until 8 pm and Wednesday, April 23, 2014 from 1 pm until the time of service at Cox Funeral Home. Reverends Mike Howard and Joe Mercer will officiate. Interment will follow in the Kilbourne Cemetery in Kilbourne, Louisiana. Services are under the direction of Cox Funeral Home of Oak Grove. Mr. Craft died on Sunday, April 20, 2014 at St. Francis Medical Center in Monroe, Louisiana following a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's. He was a member of Swartz First Baptist Church. He retired on June 5, 1999 from the Department of Public Safety and Corrections after having been employed by the State of Louisiana for 27 1/2 years. He worked for the Department of Vocational Rehabilitation, the Office of Community Services and finally as a Juvenile Probation Officer for the Department of Public Safety and Corrections. He was an avid quail hunter and spent many happy hours hunting in Texas. He enjoyed spending time with friends and family. Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Melba Crowe Craft of Monroe; his son, Robert Matthew Craft of Tulsa, Oklahoma; sister, JoAnn Pickett and her husband Wayne Pickett of Terry, Louisiana; sister Kathyrn Braswell and her husband John Paul Braswell of Oak Grove; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Betty and Curtis Butler of Forest, Louisiana; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Sissy and Fuzz Johnson of Transylvania, Louisiana; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Carolyn and John Mercer of Oak Grove, Louisiana; sister-in-law, Linda Thornhill of Forest; sister-in-law, Brenda Eaton of Forest. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews; a special cousin, Wayne "Sonny" LaForge and his wife Mary LaForge; special friends, Alton and Sandra Drummond and Mike and Donna Stephens. Pallbearers will be: Alton Drummond, Mike Stephens, Karl Wallace, Jerry Garlington, Trey Heusel, Clyde White, Willie Crain and Richard Strong. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Dickie Heusel, Terry Finley, Wayne Aswell, Dustin Pellizzari, Billy Hendrix, Tommy Wrenn and Lawrence Bingham. The family would like to thank the owners and staff of Stoney Brook Memory Care Home for the love and compassion they showed to "Mr. Buddy", Melba, and Matthew. They made his last two months as comfortable as possible. The family would also like to thank the doctors and nurses at St. Francis Medical Center for their skill and compassion in caring for Buddy and the comfort and compassion they showed to Melba and Matthew during his final days.
