She was born March 23, 1939 in Monroe to James Roberts and Margie Clark Roberts. Millie graduated from West Monroe High School, Class of 1957; she received a B.A degree in Education, a Masters Degree of Education in Reading, and her Education Specialist Degree in Gifted Education from the University of Louisiana. She was a supervisor of student teachers, and retired after thirty- two years of teaching in the Ouchita Parish School District of Monroe, Louisiana. Upon retirement, and moving to Northwest Arkansas in 2005 Millie was affiliated with Northwest Arkansas Community College (NWACC), where she helped area high school students prepare for college. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma and Alpha Delta Kappa, Beta Delta Chapter and served as their first president. Millie loved flowers and gardening and was a member of the Bentonville Garden Club, as well as the Monroe Garden Club, and was a member of P.E.O. Sisterhood, Chapter CL of Bentonville. She was also a member of the "Page Turners Book Club" in Bentonville. She was very active in the First Baptist Church of Bentonville where she was in the "Winsome" Sunday School Class; she sang in the church choir, and loved playing the piano. Millie was also very involved in the First Baptist Church of West Monroe where she was the teacher for the "Promise" Sunday school class and sang in the choir. Millie enjoyed the many venues offered by the Walton Arts Center in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Survivors include her husband of 52 years Sam, of the home; two sons Robert Crawford, of Monroe, LA, Richard Crawford Sr., and his wife Lisa of West Monroe, LA; a daughter Amy Curry and her husband Mike of Bentonville, AR ; two brothers Willie Roberts of Huntsville, AL, Jerry Roberts, of West Monroe; a sister Betty Bamburg, of Calhoun, LA; seven grandchildren Caryn Foresee and her husband Aron , Jason Curry , Richard Curry , and Katie Grace Curry, all of Bentonville; Lee Crawford, Tyler Crawford and his wife Amanda, and Cara Crawford, all of West Monroe, Louisiana; one great grand daughter Lily Crawford of West Monroe. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister Vivian Baxter. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 1:00 PM Friday January 9, 2009 at the First Baptist Church of Bentonville with the Rev. Dr. Phillip Smith, and the Rev. Dr. Bruce Austin officiating. A second service will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday January 11, 2009 at the First Baptist Church of West Monroe with the Rev. Mark Fenn officiating. Inurnment will be in the Northminster Church Columbarium and Northminster Memorial Garden of Monroe, at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in honor of Mildred "Millie" Roberts Crawford to American Cancer Society, 3291 South Thompson, Suite D 104, Springdale, Arkansas 72764, or the First Baptist Church of West Monroe c/o "The Music Program" 500 Pine Street, West Monroe, LA 71291.
