It is to Mrs. Frankie that I owe thanks for these treasures! Most of these obituaries (which are clippings) have no dates on them. They were probably taken from the Monroe News, one of the parent newspapers of the modern News-Star or the Progressive Age, a Ruston paper. Most date from the 1890-1910 years, which are now lost to time. These newspapers were never preserved. That makes these obituaries even more valuable to researchers. Whenever possible, dates and information clarifying the obituaries have been taken from cemetery indexes at the Ouachita Parish Public Library. OBITUARY. On the evening of the 4th of October, 1888, at the residence of W.H. Rainbolt, at a quarter past five o'clock, sweet little Minnie Clampit, daughter of James W. Clampit, aged two years, ten months and four days. [D]eparted this life. She leaves an affectionate father, three sisters and two brothers, to mourn her death. She suffered great pain twenty-one days, but bore it patiently. She was a beautiful and lovely child, loved and admired by all who knew her. Oh! what pain it gives us to part with one of earth's loveliest treasures, how hard it was to stand by her dying bed and watch its last moments with us. But she is gone to that land where suffering and death are unknown, where she can enjoy all the blessings of a heavenly home. For our loss is her eternal gain. Will not He who has said come up higher, and severed the ties of a loving family, sanctify this affliction to the good of its dear father, brothers, sisters and relations? As she can not come back to us, may we so live as to go to her, is my prayer. Sweet Minnie of time, thou hath been made, By the Almighty's hand, And here thou hast stayed, Until death hath laid thee With the silent band. The light from our Savior's countenance, Now beams on Minnie above, She is safe in the arms of Jesus, Safe in his infinite love. We would not call her back to earth, Back from the joys of heaven, We would not call from our Savior's side, The sweet spirit to her now given. Respectfully, FRANCES RAINBOLT, Indian Village, La. Additional Comments: No burial information was found, but a James W. Clampit is buried in Indian Village Cemetery, Ouachita Parish.
