Mr. Davies passed away on Tuesday, March 14, 2017 in Albuquerque, NM. Ronald Lewis Davies was born August 20, 1943 in Des Moines, Iowa. He moved to Dallas, TX at a young age. Ronald attended and graduated from Jesuit High School in 1961. He remained active with his alumni and planned the 50th year reunion. He was the glue that kept the group together throughout the years. Following high school, Ronald earned a scholarship playing baseball and later graduated from Northeast Louisiana University with a degree in Business Administration. He played baseball and joined the ROTC. After college, Ronald joined the Army and served for four years. He was honorably discharged in 1969 with the rank of Captain and he received several commendation medals for his service and returned to Monroe, LA. Ronald was the Sales Manager and Owner of Gay's Men's Wear in downtown Monroe from 1969-1993. This was an institution in the community. There are so many stories about how funny he was and made his customers feel at ease. He was a leader in the community with many organizations. These included: The Monroe Jaycee's 1969-1978, where he served as Director, Vice President and President and was awarded a lifetime membership; The Better Business Bureau 1970-1978, where he served as both Director and President; The American Heart Association, where he served as Director and President; and The North Monroe Lakeshore Lions Club 1980-1988, where he served as both Director and President and was awarded Lion of the Year. He was a member of Jesus the Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Monroe, LA. Ron also attended McClendon Baptist Church in West Monroe with his wife, Mary Lou. Ron was an avid golfer who had numerous hole in ones over the years. He would humbly say, "I am lucky, that's all". He loved his golf buddies and spent much of his time with them at Pine Hills Country Club until it closed and then at Calvert Crossing. Ron had many nicknames that he received from his buddies, (Ragman and Candyman). He loved his wife and children very much. In October 2012, he wrote a letter to his children with very specific instructions following his death. His classic humor stood out in his last line, "Remember, you're not getting out of this world alive".
