Billie Catherine (Burson) Davis, USAR Ret., will be held at 10:00 AM, Friday, May 29, 2015 in the chapel of Kilpatrick Funeral Home West Monroe with Dr. Woods Watson officiating. Interment will follow at Hasley Cemetery under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home West Monroe, LA. She was born in Arkadelphia, AR on May 31, 1934 and passed away May 26, 2015 at St. Francis Medical Center. She graduated from Marion High School in 1952 and upon graduation enrolled in the Charity Hospital School of Nursing, New Orleans, LA graduating in May 1955. She continued working at Charity until May 1956, then she joined the Air Force Nurse Corps. While stationed at Keesler AFB, MS she met her husband. In March 1962 they received an assignment to Okinawa where she worked as Chief Nurse of the Air Force dispensary at Naha Air Base. She resigned from the Air Force in August 1964 to accompany her husband to Germany. While in Germany she worked at the Army's 97th General Hospital in Frankfurt. Upon her husband's retirement from the Air Force they moved to West Monroe and she worked at St. Francis while he finished college. They moved to Florida for a year and then returned to West Monroe. Again, she went to work at St. Francis Medical Center. She worked in the emergency room with Dr. George Wright, Commander of an Army Reserve Medical Unit, and he asked her to join. She joined the Army Reserve in 1975 and served until her retirement in 1994. After joining the reserve she enrolled at the NLU School of Nursing where she obtained her BSN. She is a member of the Reserved Officers Association (ROA), and the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA). She was the first lady officer to serve as president of the Louisiana ROA. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Billy G. Davis; one son, John Davis and wife, Joy of Lavonia, GA; two step-grandchildren, Kelli Doll and husband Mark, of Canton, GA; Lucas Brown, Troy, AL; and two great-grandchildren Leigh and Harper Doll; and her special niece, pal, and "dinner out" buddy, Beth Hatten Hinton. She was preceded in death by her parents, Will D. and Ruby Nell Burson; sister, Frances J. Hawes; brother, Bobby W. Burson. The family extends a special thanks to Drs. Green, Hull, Maran, and Sampognaro, and to the medical staff at St. Francis for their care. Pallbearers will be Jack Humphries, Harold Scott, Johnny Mitchell, Carolyn Gimber, Raymond Williams and Robert Kilpatrick. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: MOAA Scholarship Fund, C/O Jerry Wall, 100 Rue Chapelle, West Monroe, LA 71291, or to BARAK Shrine Patient Transportation Fund, 6620 Frontage Road, Monroe, LA 71202. Visitation will be held Thursday, May 28, 2015 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Kilpatrick Funeral Home West Monroe.
