JR. DAVIS Funeral services celebrating the life of Dr. Henry Horton Davis, 91, of Monroe, LA will be 11:00 AM Wednesday July 13, 2016 at the Covenant Presbyterian Church in Monroe, LA with Rev. Jonathan Waggoner officiating, additional services will be held at 10:30 AM Thursday July 14, 2016 at Lakelawn Metairie Funeral Home in New Orleans, LA. Interment will be in Lakelawn Metairie Cemetery in New Orleans, LA under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home in Monroe, LA. Dr. Davis died peacefully in his sleep July 10, 2016 at Savannah at the Oaks in Shreveport, LA from a brief illness. Upon graduating from Cumberland College, Dr. Davis attended the University of Louisville, where he was part of the Navy V-12 unit, an accelerated program that helped provide college educated naval officers who were in demand during World War II. A 1944 graduate of University of Louisville, he attended dental school at Loyola University and graduated in 1947. Dr. Davis then trained in Oral Surgery at Charity Hospital in New Orleans, and during the Korean War, he served on active duty as a Navy Dentist from 1950-52. Dr. Davis was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church in Monroe, LA, board of Director for the Chamber of Commerce, Advisory Board for the Salvation Army, Advisory Board for KEDM Public Radio, Rotary Club since 1959. His hobbies included ranching, and cattle farming. Dr. Davis developed registered Angus Herd and produced some very fine animals. Snow skiing was one of his favorite activities for many years. He was a Member of State and American Dental Associations; Member of South Eastern O.M.F. Surgeons; Diplomat for the American Board of O.M.F. Surgeons; and served a tour on Project Hope's, Hope Ship in 1967. Project HOPE renders a tremendous service to the less fortunate people around the world. After retiring from his 35 year private practice in Monroe, Dr. Davis was involved with a maxillofacial residency program in Shreveport and served as an assistant professor at LSU Health Sciences Center. Dr. Davis loved the Lord, his wife, and his children. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Beulah Davis and his brother, Thomas Edward Davis. Survivors- his wife of 67 years, Mrs. Jean Browne Davis; Children, Henry H. (Jack) Davis, III and wife, Ann, Diane D. Shaver and husband, Bill, Carol Gamble and fiancé', Dr. Corbin Amman, Donovan E. Davis and wife, Tricia; Grandchildren, Jason Davis, Samantha Davis, Will Shaver and wife, Amy, Katie Walker and husband, Chris, Hanna Gamble, Christine Davis and John Davis; 6 Great Grandchildren, Nolan, Mallory and Anna Shaver and Lauren, Isaiah, and Madelyn Saravia; Sister, Mrs. Sara Abitanta; and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be John D. Davis, Will Shaver, Chris Walker and Ryan Didion. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM Wednesday at Covenant Presbyterian Church in Monroe, LA. Memorials may be made to Covenant Presbyterian Church.
