A celebration of her life will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, April 21, 2014, at the Mulhearn Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel. Dr. Alan Miller and Rev. Craig West will conduct the service. Visitation will be 10:00 AM until service time Monday in the Mausoleum Chapel. She will be interred with her husband, Chuck, in the Mausoleum, under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe. Mrs. Denham was born December 13, 1929, one of three children born to Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Waters, of Pollock, LA. After graduation from Pollock High School, she attended Louisiana College in Pineville, where she earned a BS degree in Home Economics and Chemistry, and held membership in Kappa Omicron, Nu. She received her Master's Degree from Northeast Louisiana University, (now ULM) in Monroe, and also did post graduate studies there. She interned at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Pineville to complete graduate requirements for Registration in Dietetics. In 1957, she married Charles "Chuck" Denham of Ada, OK. They were married for 55 years, years filled with love and service to God, country, family, and friends they made along the way. She was employed as Dietician at E.A. Conway Hospital, (now LSU Health Sciences Center, Monroe) and at Glenwood Hospital, West Monroe. In 1973, she was employed by the Monroe City School System as Food Services Director, retiring in 1990. She was an active member in American and Louisiana Dietetics Associations, and a charter member of the Northeast Area Dietetics Association, and was recognized as one of the founders of Consultant Dieticians in Health Care Facilities, serving small hospitals in Northeast Louisiana. Mrs. Denham was a member of Ouachita Retired Teachers Association and a lifetime member of the Grand Order of the Eastern Star, Pollock Chapter #76. Mrs. Denham was a longtime member of First Baptist Church, Monroe, LA. Following her retirement she served as Food Services Director for First Baptist. With her husband, Mrs. Denham served as a Sunday School Department Director, as well as Woman's Missionary Union Director, Baptist Women member, and singles group leader at First Baptist. She compiled and published three cookbooks to preserve the traditional cooking and serving memories of her generation. Mrs. Denham was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; sister and brother-in-law, June and Ray Slayter; and brother and sister-in-law, Rudolph and Marie Waters. She is survived by one son, Mark E. Denham, of Baton Rouge, LA, nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
