JACK G. DOLES


Jack G. doles, 77, of Monroe, died Sunday, July 20, 2014, at North Monroe 
Hospital after a lengthy illness. He was known as a gentleman's gentleman and 
was loved by everyone who knew him.

He was an extremely talented individual who drew from the beauty of God's 
creation and loved life to the fullest extent. His zest for life included 
exploring the world through flying, camping, motorcycling, and fellowshipping 
with everyone that he met.

At the age of 17, he earned his private pilot license which gave him the freedom 
to view every facet of the sky and the earth below. In addition, motorcycling 
also provided him with freedom to enjoy the beauty of nature in all her forms. 
He had a deep perception for beauty which he used as an artist who could paint 
roses or a rolling sea tide. He always assured everyone that conversed with him 
that there is a true God for no man could lay out such beauty and precision of 
the Earth.

Jack loved adventure by planning a trip down the Mississippi River with his 
brother Jerry, his grandfather W.F. Doles, Sr., and cousin Raymond Lea. The 
family built a barge which they loaded with the necessities for survival as they 
anticipated their voyage. The trip was a feat which lent itself to many tales at 
family gatherings.

To many people, Jack was a servant who helped anyone with their special needs. 
These included ushering at NMBC, working as a volunteer for the Red Cross, 
mowing yards, or doing whatever another's need was; therefore, he was name 
"Faithful Jack."

Accepting a request from Ms. Anita Brinson, Jack worked with her and others in 
the restoration of what is now known as the Chennault Aviation and Military 
Museum. His talent with perception was the key to many of the displays in the 
museum. The museum has grown beyond its expectations as first envisioned. Jack's 
work with the museum was inspired by his patriotism to his country since he had 
served seven years in the Army Reserve Unit.

Jack received many awards for meritorious service during his employment with 
G.M.A.C. After 30 years of service, his health was a major factor in his 
retirement.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife Glenda C. Doles, a son Todd Doles and 
wife Wendy and a daughter Terry Lynne Groves of Monroe. In addition to his 
immediate family, he leaves one brother Jerry Doles and wife Polly of Chidester, 
AR; two sisters Pam Little and husband Sam and Joy Hogan and husband Clarence of 
Bastrop, LA; and a brother-in-law Jesse Martin of Natchez, MS. Jack leaves 
behind four grandchildren: Jordan Groves and wife Jessica of Charleston, SC, 
Jared Groves of Monroe, LA, Lexi Doles and Paden Doles of Monroe, LA. In 
addition, he leaves behind three great-grandchildren: Hayden, Bella, and Adalynn 
Groves of Charleston, SC.

He was preceded in death by his parents W. F. Doles, Jr. and Oniece Taylor 
Doles; a sister Ann Doles Martin; two sons, John Nicklas and Jack Gordon Doles.

Visitation will be from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at Mulhearn 
Funeral Home on HWY 165. The funeral will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, July 
23, 2014, at North Monroe Baptist Church with Rev. Warren Eckhardt and Rev. 
David Worthington officiating. Interment will follow at Mulhearn Memorial Park 
Cemetery, under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, 
Monroe.

Pallbearers will be Heath Doles, Richard Lyle, Randy Smith, Sandy Kelly, 
Clarence Hogan, and Steven Felter.
