Margery Catherine Stewart Dopson was singing and praising her Lord as she danced her way to heaven on May 24, 2010 in Austin, TX. Margery was born on April 22, 1923 to Hetty Hickson Stewart and Harley Otis Stewart in Williams, Arizona surrounded by the beauty of the Grand Canyon. She embraced her pioneer heritage, and exemplified leadership, tenacity, strength and grace throughout her life. After being swept off her feet, she married her love, Joel Carson Dopson in 1943 in Westwood, California. They began their family while Carson faithfully served his country in World War II. They settled in Rayville, Louisiana, where they established lifelong relationships with their church and community. Margery was a vibrant, accomplished, joyful spirit. She was a loving and caring individual, a bright and shining star. She enjoyed life to its fullest, had a smile for everyone she met, and her infectious laugh echoes in our hearts. Beyond family and friends, her greatest loves included scripture, dancing, music, art, flowers, cooking and travel. Upon joylessly meeting with family and friends she exclaimed, "We can meet anywhere!" She achieved her undergraduate degree at The University of Louisiana at Monroe with high honors, followed by her real estate license, where she excelled at Dopson Realty. As a Daughter of the American Revolution, she served as Regent of the Boeuf River Chapter and attended the Continental Congress in Washington, D.C. She retained membership in the Thankful Hubbard Chapter DAR in Austin. She was a member of Rayville First Baptist Church for many years, where she sang in the choir and served as church secretary. She continued to sing and worship as a member of Great Hills Baptist Church in Austin. Margery was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. She is survived by her children, Kathlene Crist and husband, David of Austin, TX; Jay Dopson and former wife, Annette Grigsby Dopson of Monroe, LA; Keith Dopson and wife Deborah; Joelle Pardue and husband Wayne "Tookie" Collom; beloved sister, Colleen Scott; dear friend and companion, Albert Amezquita; cousin Martha Hickson Smith, and a lifetime of treasured relatives and friends.
