WALTER EVANS DORROH

Walter Evans Dorroh, Sr. passed on to eternal rest on the morning of January 
5, 2013 after a brief illness. Born on December 31, 1919, he was preceded in 
death by his parents, John E. Dorroh and Jeannette Harkins Dorroh; by his wife 
of 51 years, Adrienne Prince Dorroh; by his daughter, Adrienne Stephanie 
Dorroh O'Dowd; and by his wife of 6 years, Florence Bumgardner Dorroh.

He is survived by son Walter E. Dorroh, Jr., and wife Mary Beth and their son 
Evans; by son William Edward Dorroh and wife Katherine and their children 
Berkley, Matthew, Sara Beth and Connor; by son-in-law Dr. Michael O'Dowd, and 
wife Ashleigh, and their children Tjaden and husband Finn, Jack and wife Anna 
their son John Michael III, and George Walter; and by daughter Linda Hooton 
with husband Tom, and their children Kimberly and husband Adam and their son 
Nicholas and Todd and his son Tanner.

Funeral services will be held at Nolley United Methodist Church in Jena, 
Louisiana on Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. 

The family will receive friends at Rose-Neath Funeral Home Mansfield, 
Louisiana on Tuesday, January 8, 2013 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.

Walter lived a full and productive life. He graduated from LSU where he was an 
active member and chapter president of Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity. He 
eventually saw 2 sons and 2 grandsons join the Fraternity. After graduation, 
he served in WWII as a pilot, and became a decorated officer, flying over 50 
missions over North Africa, Italy, and Eastern Europe with no casualties to 
any member of his flight crew. After a brief time as a correspondent banker, 
he subsequently moved to Olla, La., where he became the President of the Olla 
State Bank. He served as President of the Olla Kiwanis Club, as a member and 
president of the LaSalle Parish School Board, and was a strong supporter and 
sponsor of youth baseball in LaSalle Parish. He also helped originate the 
scholarship program of the Olla Kiwanis Club for worthy students go to medical 
school and return to serve as doctors in LaSalle Parish. During the 1970's and 
1980's Walter served as president and CEO of Bank of Jena, and in 1976 became 
a major shareholder, CEO and Chairman of the Board of Mansfield Bank and Trust 
which subsequently became Community Bank of Louisiana. Until his illness he 
worked daily at Community Bank successfully managing its investment portfolio, 
and remained active in local civic organizations. His banking career spanned 
more than 70 years, during which time he earned the respect and admiration of 
his customers, colleagues, and competitors. He was named DeSoto Parish LSU 
Alumni of the Year in 2003 and in his honor a scholarship bearing his name was 
created by the DeSoto Parish Chapter of the LSU Alumni Association in 2010. 
Walter was a dedicated and loving family man. His family remained the most 
important part of his life until the very end. As a member of First United 
Methodist Church he supported his church financially and with his attendance 
when his health permitted. He loved sports, particularly golf, baseball, and 
football. Even during his illness he was kind and courteous to everyone he 
met. He set an example for his family and friends by being a decent and 
honorable man.

Honoring Walter as pallbearers are David B. Means, Matt Robinson, Tommy Craig, 
Randy Wood, Bruce Canfield, Kent Wilkes, Jimmy Granger, and Pat Simpson.

Serving as honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Board of Directors 
of the Community Bank of Louisiana and Dr. I. C. Turnley and Huey Morris.

Special thanks are extended by the family to his caregivers, especially Naomi 
Sloan and Pat Simpson. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests 
that memorials be sent to the Louisiana Methodist Children's Home, St. Jude's 
Hospital or the DeSoto Parish LSU Alumni Association Scholarship Fund.
