W." Douglas, a resident of Houston, Texas, passed away on Sunday, April 3, 2016. He was a native of Grayson, Louisiana. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM on April 9, 2016, at Grace United Methodist Church, 1245 Heights Blvd, Houston, Texas. The Rev. Ken Irby, Superintendent, Shreveport District, United Methodist Church in Shreveport will be officiating. Interment of ashes will be at Welcome Home Cemetery at a later date. Mr. Douglas (George) was born in Grayson (Pistol Thicket), Louisiana on June 30, 1926, to the union of his parents, Wesley Bennett Douglas and Equilla Anne Volentine Douglas. He attended Grayson High school. Prior to serving in the Navy in WWII, he married Melissa Verna Dean Humphreys on April 21, 1944. He was preceded in death by his father, Wesley Bennett Douglas; Mother, Equilla Anne Volentine; Sister, Wilma Edna Douglas Gilbert; Brothers-in-law, Glen Wilburn Gilbert, Hubert Davis Humphreys, J. C. Taylor, O. A. "Billy" McKeithen, and nephew, Timothy Wayne Gilbert. Survivors include his wife, Melissa "Verna" Humphreys Douglas of Houston, TX; Son, David Wesley Douglas and wife, Lamar, of Houston, TX; Daughter, Melissa Douglas Folks and husband, Johnny, of Baton Rouge, LA; Four grandsons, Steven David Douglas and wife, Brittany, of Houston, TX; Wesley Allen Douglas and wife, Luciana, of Shreveport, LA; Andrew Folks and wife, Helen, of Baton Rouge, LA; Stephen Folks, of Mississippi; One granddaughter, Leslie Brady of Illinois; Seven great-grandchildren . He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Mildred Taylor McKeithen; three nephews, Michael Gilbert; James "Jim" Taylor; Robert "Bob" Taylor; Niece, Glenda Gilbert Mc Craw Thornhill, and many other cousins, nieces, and nephews. Honorary pallbearers are Steven Douglas, Wesley Douglas, Andrew Folks, Stephen Folks, Johnny Folks, Mike Gilbert, Bob Taylor, Jim Taylor, James Thornhill, and Howard Strebeck. As a member of the United Methodist Church, George participated in the church choir of the local UMC in each community in which he lived. He also had a natural talent for mechanical projects. During his retirement he discovered a latent artistic ability which he incorporated into many of his projects. Also during his retirement years, he enjoyed traveling with his wife, Verna, and their friends.
