Sunday, July 13, 2014 in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home, West Monroe with Josh Milliron and Gary Stringer officiating. Interment will follow in Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery in Monroe, LA. Mrs. Downey died Friday, July 11, 2014 at St. Francis Medical Center after a brief illness. Mrs. Downey was born in New Orleans, LA. She attended BMI and Northeast Louisiana Jr. College in Monroe, LA, where she met her husband of 58 years. Mrs. Downey was a longtime member of McGuire United Methodist Church in West Monroe. She was an active member of The D'Arbonne Hills Study Club and enjoyed her weekly Wednesday Ladies Lunch Group. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill C. Downey; her parents, Bill Gilbert, Sr. and Anna Johnson Gilbert; siblings, C.L. Gilbert, Judith Lorraine Gilbert Robbins, Bill Gilbert, Jr., Betty Gilbert Crownover and Thomas J. Gilbert. Survivors include her children, Billie and Kay Downey, Judy and Danny Breard, Sally and Tod Cagle, and Jenny and J.R. Hood; Grandchildren, Danny and Miranda Breard, Jeremy and Courtney Cagle, Bryan Cagle, Chris and Meg Breard, Josh and Kasey Cagle, Darby and Whitney Downey, Casey Morris, Anna-Rose Morris, and Mac Downey; she is also survived by 15 great-grandchildren. Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Visitation will be held from 1:00 P.M. until service time on Sunday. The family would like to give special thanks to the staff at St. Francis SICU and Telemetry Units, Dr. Owen Meyers and Dr. Richard Fincher for all of their help and care during this difficult time.
