Jay was born November 30, 1933 in Monroe, Louisiana to Georgia and Daniel Dupree of Delhi, where he lived for most of his life. He married his high school sweetheart, Betty Brown in 1956, and they were blessed with four children. After college, he joined the Army serving as an MP assigned to the 508 MP BN in Munich, Germany. Upon return, Jay and Betty settled in Delhi where he raised cattle and farmed. In the 80's, they moved to Shreveport where they enjoyed raising thoroughbred race horses. In 2002, they left Louisiana to be closer to their grandchildren.
