Durrett, Sr., age 77, of Dubach, LA went to be with his Lord and Savior on March 25, 2015, after a lengthy illness. Funeral services will be held at First Baptist Church of Dubach on 1:00 Saturday, March 28, 2015. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday, March 27th. Interment will be at Henry Cemetery in Dubach under the direction of Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Ruston. Tom was born on May 29, 1937 in Bienville Parish, LA to the late Joseph P. and Ora J. Durrett. He married his sweetheart, Katherine Louise Brown on January 8, 1960. They were married 55 years when Katherine was called home to Heaven. Tom, not wanting her to be gone too long without him, joined her six short weeks to the day. Tom's employment years were spent mostly in the construction industry. He started as a laborer with Lincoln Builders and other contractors and retired in 2002 as a general Field Superintendent from Don M. Barron Contractors of Farmerville, LA. Tom led construction teams on numerous projects across Texas, Louisiana & Mississippi, specializing in commercial construction and waste water treatment plants. He loved his work, and took great pride in it. Tom loved the outdoors -especially bream & crappie fishing and hunting with his son and grandsons. Upon his retirement, Tom and Katherine took to the road, traveling from the east coast to the west coast. Along the way, they visited the state of Washington, where Tom, as a teenager, once cut asparagus for a living. Nascar races were a frequent stop, as was the Little League World Series. Tom & Katherine would pick a team and join the families for the week, reminiscent of his earlier years spent as Little League baseball coach. Tom was a member of First Baptist Church of Dubach, where he served several years on the maintenance committee. He was also a member of the AGC Carpenter's Union and Crossroads Hunting Club. Left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Debra Heard, Mona Wilson & husband Mark, all of Dubach and Renee Simpson of Farmerville; his son, Thomas Durrett, Jr & wife Heather of Bernice; grandchildren, Benjamin Heard & wife Lacey, Katie Jorge & husband Matt, Jacob Heard, Joseph Aaron, Kristina Davis & husband Steven, Justin Simpson & wife Autumn, Blake Simpson & wife Tiffany, Cody Simpson, Tommy Durrett, III, Taylor Durrett & wife Samantha; step- grandchildren, Mark Wilson, Jr. and Michelle Bagwell and husband Glen; precious great-grandchildren, Cole Harrison, Maddie Grace, Bailey Ann, Kloe Grace, Austin Michael and Hadlee Joy; step-great grandchildren, Adam & Ashlynn, Paisley, Remington, Brylee & Kayla; sisters: Betty J.
