Interment will follow in Hasley Cemetery, West Monroe, LA. Mr. Earl was born December 6, 1933 in "Swampers", LA and passed away December 25, 2015 following a lengthy illness. He was preceded in death by wife, Janice Powell Earl; father, Edmund Madison Earl; mother, Georgia Allen; sisters, Margie Funderburk and Nellie Warren; and brother, Leo Earl. Mr. Earl was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and uncle with countless friends. He was a member of First Baptist Church in West Monroe, where he was active in the Nursing Home Ministry and "New Directions" Life Group where he used his musical ability to glorify his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. As a public servant and police officer, Mr. Earl's greatest pleasure was to help others in need, assisting and ministering to the elderly. Mr. Earl became a Christian in the late 50's and was baptized in the Ouachita River. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, having served in the Korean War. Mr. Earl was employed for 23 years at the Monroe Police Department and retired in 1984 as Major of the Traffic Division. He was a member of the Municipal Police Officers Association of LA and fleet manager at Metro Ambulance Service. Survivors include his son, Billy Earl (Rhonda); daughter, Connie Rushing (Fred); grandchildren, Brandon Earl, Brittany Earl, Lisa Ford, Beverly Phillips and Travis Ford; great grandchildren,, Matthew Calhoun and Annabelle Earl; sister, Ada Killingsworth; sister-in-law, Vera Earl; and a host of nieces, nephews, co-workers and friends. Mr. Earl's extended family includes Derek Hodnett (Angie) and children, Kyle, Abbey and Caleb; Stuart Hodnett (Paige) and children, Luke, Lane and Levi; Janae Rozema (Craig) and children, Rachel, Reese and Chaz; Blake Hodnett (Paula) and children, Graham, Spencer and Hannah. Visitation will be held from 12:00 P.M. until service time on Tuesday. The family desires to thank the staff of the Northeast LA War Veterans Home and Ann Moore for the excellent care provided for Mr. Earl. Memorials may be made to the Northeast LA War Veterans Home.
