Cox Funeral Home Bastrop, LA Harvey Charles Echols, Sr. passed away Friday, January 8, 2010 at the Cherry Ridge Guest Care in Bastrop. Mr. Echols, age 91, was born in Monticello, AR on July 18, 1918 to the late Don Henry and Nettie Owens Echols. He graduated from Drew Central High School and joined the U.S. Navy. He was a survivor and eyewitness of the attack on Pearl Harbor. Mr. Echols worked at the single service division of International Paper Company until his retirement. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Mylinda Burks Sims and two sons- in-law, James (Jim) McCready, Sr. and Douglas Moore; ten brothers and one sister. Survivors include his wife of sixty-three years, Mabel Jordan Echols; sons, Charlie William Burks, Jr. and wife Pauline of Harrah, OK, Harvey Charles (Chuck) Echols, Jr. and wife Sharon of Bastrop; daughters, Nettie Echols Cartwright and husband Finley of Lufkin, TX and Nancy Echols Moore of Bastrop. He is also survived by fourteen grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Sunday January 10th from 12:00 PM until 1:30 PM followed by funeral services at 2:00 PM at the Chapel of Cox Funeral Home of Bastrop with the Rev. Allan Eppinette officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery of Bastrop under the direction of Cox Funeral Home. Serving as pallbearers will be grandsons and great-grandsons. For those who wish, memorials may be made to the hospice of your choice, the American Legion, or to the Morehouse Parish Cancer Fund.
