Rev. Larry Hibbard will be officiating. Interment will follow at Hasley Cemetery under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home. Mrs. Edgar was born March 16, 1922 in Edenton, North Carolina to Maggie and Will Sutton and went to heaven Friday, December 28, 2012 after a long illness. She graduated from nursing School in 1942 and began her nursing career of 49 years. On November 10, 1944, Mary Sutton married Bill Edgar from Louisiana, who was stationed in North Carolina in the Marines. Their sons Bill Edgar, Jr., (1946), and David (1947) were born in North Carolina. After the family moved to Louisiana, Richard was born in 1949. After several moves through the years, the family settled in West Monroe in 1961 where Mrs. Edgar began working at the new Glenwood Hospital. She was a night supervisor for over 30 years. Mrs. Edgar loved to travel. She visited her sons and their families wherever they lived. She always looked forward to her trips to Edenton, NC to visit her family. For many years, she and her sisters traveled the U.S. and the world. She once said her favorite trip by far was to Israel to walk in Jesus' footsteps. Mrs. Edgar was a faithful and active member of McGuire Methodist Church until she moved to The Arbor and later to Avalon Place. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, William B. Edgar, Sr. in 1967, her parents, and her sister, Gwendolyn "Pete" Smith. Mrs. Edgar is survived by one sister, Doris Hughes; one brother, Leonard and wife Martha; three sons, Bill, Jr. and wife Sandy, David and wife Alaine, and Richard and wife Dana; four grandsons, David, Brad, Mike and wife Kacey, and Dan and wife Lori; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter. Grandsons and great-grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Mary Lee, your legacy lives on in your sons, grandchildren, great- grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. You will forever be in our hearts.
