All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Gina Brown rootsgirl36@gmail.com May 26, 2013, 6:04 pm News Star World - May 26, 2013 MICHAEL ELLERBE Michael Ellerbe--Child of God, Husband/Companion/Beloved for 38 years of Elain Helmke Ellerbe, Father to Arianne Ellerbe Mathe as well as Biscuit, Catfish, Blueberry and Highway, Father-in-Law to Chet Mathe III, Papaw to Abigail Rose Mathe, Surrogate Father and Mentor to literally hundreds of men that have passed through the walls of Louisiana Prisons, Beloved Son of Juanita Ellerbe and the late Julian Ray Ellerbe, Son-in-Law to Ann Helmke and the late Bubba Helmke, Brother of Nita Rae Ellerbe Womack and husband Jimmy, Peggy Ellerbe Smith and husband Ricky, Brad Ellerbe and wife Marsha, and Jennifer Ellerbe. Uncle to Chris McGough, wife Claire, daughter Anastasia; Mandy Womack, Jana McGough Blaylock, husband Brandon, son Mason, Megan Womack Hodge, husband Casey, son Cannon and daughter Landry, stepped into the arms of His Mighty King and Savior Jesus on Friday, May 24, 2013 after a hard fought battle against cancer. He served as the Director of Re-Entry and Pre-Release at Dixon Correctional Institute in Jackson, Louisiana, where, since 2004, he has educated, supported and guided incarcerated men to prepare them to return home as productive members of society. Among Michael's many accomplishments that include song writer/author/gifted singer/preacher, he leaves behind a legacy as a Man of God who was called and ordained into ministry, spending his life to help individuals thrown away by society find hope, redemption and restoration. This man will be missed by all who knew him and loved him. "Well done, good and faithful servant…Enter into the joy of your Master." Matthew 25:21. Special thanks to Michael's caregivers: Dr. Scott Seals, the Medical and Support Staff of Baton Rouge General Bluebonnet's Pennington Cancer Center and the Supportive & Palliative Care Team (Dr. Mason, Team Melanie & Angela) and Dr. Mary Stringfellow. Two different celebrations of Michael's life will take place. One in his hometown of Monroe, Louisiana is tentatively scheduled at First Baptist Church of West Monroe on Tuesday, May 28 from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., led by Reverend Woods Watson. The second celebration will take place in Baker, Louisiana at the First United Methodist Church, Thursday, May 30 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested for Refined By Fire Ministries, Inc., 174 Highland Meadows Drive, Jackson, LA 70748. These donations will be split between continuing the life changing work that Michael, Elain, and Arianne began over 25 years ago with the incarcerated and their families as well as to support the caring comfort provided by St. Joseph's / Carpenter House Hospice Services.
