Alan Miller and Rev. Johnny Hankins officiating. Interment will follow in New Winnsboro Cemetery under the direction of Gill First National Funeral Home. Mr. Emfinger was born August 7, 1943, in Gilbert to the union of Marcus Andrew Emfinger and Ora Jane Elizabeth Waller Emfinger and passed away from this life on May 6, 2015, at his residence. Gene and Nelda were married for nearly 49 years. They moved into their present home after their honeymoon and have never moved. There they reared their two sons and enjoyed successful careers, he in banking and she in education. Gene worked for Franklin State Bank for 32 years and retired in 1999, and Nelda retired in 2000, after having taught in the Franklin Parish School System for 30 years. After retirement they enjoyed many years of travel in numerous recreational vehicles and were able to visit many parts of our beautiful country. Gene and Nelda's sons presented them four beautiful grandchildren, and he doted on each one. Being a grandfather was the highlight of his life, and his name was officially changed to "Papa". Through his life, Gene was an avid sportsman enjoying deer hunting, duck hunting, fishing, and playing golf. He was a fan of the L.S.U. Tigers and hardly ever missed a game, be it football, baseball, or softball. One of his favorite pass times was playing cards, especially Texas Hold Em, and he played with a number of "card buddies" with whom he formed many friendships. Gene had a reputation for being a good cook and passed this legacy on to his sons. Many of his friends were the lucky recipients of the bounty from his yearly garden, especially tomatoes. As an old-car buff, Gene owned many antique vehicles which he enjoyed showing and driving. Two of his favorites were a 1961 MGA Roadster and his daily driver, a 1981 GMC Caballero. Gene's family and their welfare was the most important priority in his life. He touched many lives in his almost seventy-two years and will be truly missed by all who knew him. His life made a difference. Survivors include his wife Nelda Zeagler Emfinger of Winnsboro; two sons: Jason Grant Emfinger and wife Charlyn , Damon Allen Emfinger all of Winnsboro; Four grandchildren: Allen Michael Emfinger, David Grant Emfinger, Jacob Shelby Emfinger, and Carlie Ann Emfinger; one sister Myrtis DeWitt and husband Gene of Rayville; one brother: George Donald "Donnie" Emfinger and wife Georgianna of Monroe, many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. Pallbearers will be Billy Boutwell, C.J. Ezell, Joel Ezell, Johnny Ferrington, Lynn Middleton, and Clark Smith. Honorary pallbearers will be past and present officers of Franklin State Bank.
