Dr. Rick Byargeon and Rev. Dale Oden will be officiating with burial to follow at Old Town Cemetery in Haynesville under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston, LA. Visitation will be on Monday, November 24, 2008 from 9 :30 AM until time of service. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, November 25, 2008 at 10:00 AM at the First Baptist Church in Winnsboro, Louisiana. Kathryn Almand Etzel went to the Lord on November 20, 2008 after suffering a lengthy illness. She was born on June 30, 1927 and spent her 81 years as a wonderful mother and teacher. Mrs. Etzel taught high school English at Winnsboro High School for 36 years, where she was affectionately known as "Mrs. E". She also taught in Summerfield, LA, Delhi LA, Emerson, AR, and Houston, TX. During her lifetime, she served in the church as an organist and teacher. She loved the WMU circle and her Sunday school classes in Winnsboro at First Baptist Church and later, at Temple Baptist Church in Ruston. She was a graduate of Haynesville High School and Baylor University, where she majored in piano and organ. She received a second Bachelor of Arts at Baylor in English. She received her Master's degree and plus 30 from Northeast Louisiana University. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. C.B. Almand, her first husband, Harold Dubose, her second husband, Dr. W. W. Etzel and son, Dodge Almand Etzel. Survivors include her daughter, Elicia Etzel Nugent and husband John, son, Todd Etzel and wife Becky, daughter, Angel Etzel Causey and husband Mike, grandchildren, Erik Etzel and wife Jennifer, Sarah Etzel Baur and husband Harold, Ethan Etzel, Angela Nugent, Rachel Nugent, Jonathan Nugent, Ellen Nugent, Kathryn Causey, Annie Etzel, Claire Causey, Blake Etzel, and Caroline Causey. She is also survived by four great-grandchildren, Annabeth Etzel, Alex Etzel, Caroline Baur, and Addison Baur. Pallbearers will be Erik Etzel, Ethan Etzel, Jonathan Nugent, Blake Etzel, Harold Baur, Mike Womble, and Wes Lowe. Honorary Pallbearers will be Harvey Marcus, Bill Russell, Robert Gwin, and Bobby Nelson. The family would like to thank the caregivers of Rosemont Assisted Living and The Rose Garden in West Monroe, and Hospice Care of Louisiana.
