JAMES R. EVANS

James R. "Cotton Top" Evans was called home on the morning of September 24, 
2016. Cotton was born on August 25, 1949, in the big town of Archibald, LA 
to L. T. and Meridith Ray Evans. He grew up in Winnsboro, LA where he 
graduated from high school and was All State Tackle at 149 lbs. his senior 
year.

Cotton was employed with Entergy as a lineman, and never backed away from 
any job he was faced with. He retired from Entergy and was looking forward 
to spending time at "the camp".

Cotton enjoyed his camping. He had a camp on Turkey Creek and then moved on 
to the Ouachita River and Alabama Landing area. Close friends were made and 
many memories of the fun that took place. He treasured his time hunting and 
fishing and the excitement of getting ready for whatever season that was 
opening next.

For the last several years, Cotton has been sick and unable to enjoy all his 
activities that he loved so much. Life deals us some hard blows at times, 
but he faced them and fought every day to do what he could. God was merciful 
to take him. No more dialysis, surgery or pain.

Cotton is preceded in death by his parents, L. T. and Meridith Ray Evans; a 
brother, Lewis Evans; two sisters, Betty Miller and Mary Pearl Evans.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Mary Evans; two daughters, Angela 
Evans and Michelle Williams; and loving brother-in-law, Jimmy McDonald. He 
leaves four grandchildren, Jacob Gardner, Amber Chilton, Callie Bond and 
Hannah Grace Poole; and one great-grandson, Chandler Chilton.

We wish to thank George Beck, Charles Beck and Jimmy Skeen for their loving 
attendance to our family through this time. They were so faithful to come by 
and visit. Special thanks to the nursing staff on the 7th floor of St. 
Francis. We all became like family due to our length in the hospital. We 
also wish to thank Dr. Walter Sartor for supporting us and taking care of 
Cotton through surgery and after surgery. Last, but certainly not least, 
special thanks to Dr. Larry T. Olinde. We fought a good fight and you never 
let us down through all his sickness. You were there for our support over 
and beyond the call of a doctor and we value your friendship.

Memorial may be made to Lea Joyner Memorial Methodist Church or the National 
Kidney Foundation . Plants can be delivered to the residence.

A memorial service will be held on October 7, 2016, at 2:00 PM "up at the 
camp" on the Ouachita River. Officiating will be Bro. Don Delukie and Rev. 
Betty Swanson. Directions can be obtained from Lea Joyner UMC or Mulhearn 
Funeral Home, Sterlington Rd., Monroe, LA.
