Visitation will be held Friday from 4:00- 7:00 p.m. with a vigil service at 6:00 p.m. at Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, Monroe, LA with burial following. Dr. Feldhaus was born in East St. Louis, IL on January 8, 1942. She graduated from Collinsville High School (Collinsville, IL) in 1960. She then attended the University of Louisville where she completed Associate's of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees. While at U of L she was active in Delta Zeta Sorority (Treasurer), Air Force ROTC Angel Flight program (1st Lieutenant), The Fryberger Sing, and intramural athletics (field hockey). U of L is also where she met Joseph Feldhaus and they were married in Louisville on June 8, 1962. From 1965 until 1988 she worked as a Medical Technologist (ASCP) at the following hospitals: Jewish (Louisville, KY), St. Elizabeth's (Belleville, IL), St. Francis (Washington, MO), Chadron Community (Chadron, NE) and Oxford- Lafayette Hospital (Oxford, MS). In 1984 Jane and Joe started graduate school at The University of Mississippi, where she received a Master's of Science in Medicinal Chemistry in 1990. After finishing at Ole Miss they moved to Monroe, LA and she attended Northeast Louisiana University, earning her Doctor of Philosophy in Pharmaceutics in 1996. Her academic honors include CWENS, Rho Chi, Noble-Sam Award, Who's Who, and being a charter member of the Sigma Xi chapter at NLU. In 1995 she started teaching chemistry and physics at River Oaks School in Monroe and continued working there until her death. Her love of teaching, mentoring, and being Junior Class sponsor made her beloved by many. She especially loved the lab and watching the students put into practice what they had learned in the classroom. Jane was also an active member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church and volunteered for the Salvation Army Angel Tree Project for many years. She was also a long-time tax preparer at H&R Block. She was preceded in death by her parents, John (Jock) Robert and Carrie Elva (Hodges) Heslop. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Joseph B. Feldhaus of Monroe, LA, her children, Carrie (Peter Eric) Feldhaus-Setbacken of Memphis, TN, Samuel (Lisa) Feldhaus of Monroe, LA, and Dr. Amanda (J.J.) St. Marie of Pass Christian, MS, brothers John W. (Hope) and James R. (Mari) Heslop of Belleville, IL and sister Mary Ellen (Richard) Collins of Sunset Hills, MO, two nephews and two nieces. Honorary pallbearers will be past and present faculty and students at River Oaks. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the River Oaks School for the Physics Laboratory (700 Finks Hideaway Road, Monroe, LA 71203).
