David, formerly of West Monroe was retired from the U. S. Coast Guard. He was a Methodist and attended West Monroe High School and ULM, where he was active in the Wesley Foundation. He joined the U.S. Army and attended the Army's Language School in Presidio, CA. During his 7 years in the Army, he spent 4 years as a linguist in Military Intelligence stationed in Passau, Germany on the Austrian border near Czechoslovakia. Following his service in the Army, he returned to college. He then continued his military career in the Coast Guard. He was assigned to Charleston, SC to help establish the Drug Interdiction Unit working with law enforcement agencies in SC, NC, GA and FL. His last Coast Guard assignment was in Galveston, TX. During his retirement, he managed the Austin Bayou Golf and RV Park in Danbury, TX; he considered his dream job as he was able to play golf every day with a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Ronald Owen Fields at an early age. He was also preceded by his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Fields of Ocean Springs, MS, and maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Neal of Lake Providence, LA. He is survived by his daughter, Mariah E. Fields and grand-daughter, Leah Catherine of Oklahoma City, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jim and Beth Falls of West Monroe and a brother and his wife, Drs. Greg and DeLise Falls, a nephew, Alex and niece, Sarah Falls all of Apex, NC. Also surviving are his paternal aunts, Mrs. Arlene and Bob Cox of Collierville, TN, Mrs. Carole Brown of Jackson, MS and maternal aunts, Mrs. Kathryn and Don Lee of Baton Rouge and Mrs. Julia and Steve Severy of Harrison, AR and many cousins and friends. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 5 at 2:00 P.M. in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home in West Monroe with the Rev. J. Roddy Taylor presiding. Interment will follow in St. Pascal's Cemetery located in the northeast corner of Hasley Cemetery, West Monroe. Pallbearers are Bill Falls, Tony Falls, Mike Falls, Michael Henry, Clay Hollingsworth and Jimmy Gunter. Honorary pallbearers are Donald Lee of Baton Rouge, Steve Severy of Harrison AR, and Blix Messick, John Swallow and Matt Frank, all of Angleton, TX.
