He pa passed away on February 18, 2017 at the age of 85. Jack grew up in Oak Ridge, Louisiana where he enjoyed a childhood befitting of country living. He loved his connection with Oak Ridge, his family there, and the farming of his property for decades. He is a 1950 graduate of Oak Ridge High School thereafter enrolling at Louisiana Tech University where he studied business for two years and was a member of the Air Force ROTC. He then enrolled in L.S.U. and graduated in 1957. While at L.S.U. he was a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity, where he gained and cherished lifelong friendships. After graduation he attended LSU Law School and graduated in 1957. After completing law school he was commissioned to Stead Air Force Base in Reno, Nevada where he was a Lieutenant in the Air Force J.A.G. program. While in Reno, he met and married his love, Betsy Koontz Files. Jack returned to North Louisiana making his home in Monroe. His first job practicing law was with the law firm of Easterling Easterling and Easterling and became a partner after two years. After a seven year year stint with that firm he then moved to the firm of Davenport, Farr and Kell Kelly in 1967, which later became Davenport Files and Kelly. His primary focus of l of law was in the areas of successions, real estate and business transactions. In t In these areas he was afforded the opportunity to help many people and form last lasting relationships, which he treasured. He was a faithful member of First Pres Presbyterian Church in Monroe for over 50 years where he served as a Trustee, Elde Elder and Deacon. His love of God and others was evident in his daily life. He was was truly interested in everyone he met and wanted to know about each person's life life story. He was a member of Rotary Club and the Republican Party of Loui Louisiana serving as Parish Executive Committee Chairman and Board of Election Supe Supervisors President. When asked how he would like to be remembered, he replied: "As a conscientious la lawyer who was dedicated to his profession, and did the best he could for his cl clientele. A caring husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, and co considered God as his real partner in life". He was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Forrest John Files and brother, Norman Lewis Files. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Betsy Koontz Files, his daughters, Karol Files Fontaine, Lisa Files Town (Chris), Leslie Files Jenkins (Lee), as well as grandchildren; Ryan Forrest Hood (Brooke), Courtney Hood Laws (Corey), Margo Town Mathews (Michael), Lindsey Town Hardy (Elliot), Forrest Files Town, William Lee Jenkins, Christopher Leslie Jenkins, and great grandchildren; Jackson Hood, Reagan Hood, Garrett Mathews, Marin Mathews, McCall Hardy, and sister-in-law, Kathryn Koontz of Denv Denver, Colorado. Pallbearers will be his grandsons. Honorary Pallbearers are Lamar Buffington, Jim Files, Lovell Hayden, Bill Kelly, Ralph King, Jerry Ryan, Gene Worthen, and Harry Winters. The family would like to thank the law firm of Davenport, Files and Kelly for the love and consideration extended over the years. The family would also like to thank Hospice Compassus in Monroe and Baton Rouge, especially Monica Ned, RN. We are sincerely grateful to the TLC Home Companion Care Caregivers who showed so much compassion and love in their care during this difficult illness, especially Earlrich Camelotes, Alice Walker, and Rebecca McKenzie. We are fore forever grateful for each of you A service will be held at Covenant Presbyterian Church on Friday, February 24, 20 2017 at 12:00 PM with Rev. Jonathan Wagner officiating. Visitation will be from 10 10:30 AM until 12:00 PM. Interment will follow the service at Oak Ridge Ce Cemetery in Oak Ridge, LA.
