He was born August 23, 1927 in Monroe, LA to J. O. and Mable Fleming, who preceded him in death. Mr. Fleming grew up in West Monroe and received his education at Millsaps and Crosley Grammar Schools and then graduated from Ouachita Parish High School in 1944. He also attended Northeast Junior College and played football for the legendary Coach Jim Malone. Oma Gene was a veteran of the United States Army. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of West Monroe and the Fellowship Sunday School Class. He leaves behind his wife of 66 years, Elizabeth Sue Beadles Fleming; son, Dr. Michael O. Fleming of Shreveport, LA; daughter, Susan Fleming Arceneaux of Fairfax, VA; brothers, Billy Fleming of West Monroe, LA and Paul Fleming of Natchitoches, LA; also, seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. There will be a Graveside Service at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, April 26, 2014 at Hasley Cemetery Memorial Pavilion in West Monroe. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Shriner Children's Hospitals or the Wounded Warrior Project.
