Through broken hearts and tears of sorrow, we say goodbye to our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, uncle and friend. Heroes come from all walks of life it is true, and one quietly and honorably left this earth early Thursday morning. A true "hero" to all who were privileged to know and love David, his fierce and courageous battle with cancer came to an end as he took one last breath and kissed this world goodbye. He was born on Boeuf River in Amity Community near Rayville, LA. He was raised in West Monroe and Monroe, LA. He attended Ouachita High School and graduated in 1960. He worked as a manager for G.C. Murphy Company in Monroe and retired after 25 years of service. He was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Monroe and New Chapel Hill Baptist Church in West Monroe. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing and country music. A true love of his was coaching girl's softball, for which he did many years of his life. To many he was known as "Coach Dave". Through out the years at Dixie Youth he touched so many lives with encouragement and guidance. This was a true passion of his, one that brought him much joy and happiness. He was also a huge LSU fan and you could hear him cheer "Go Tigers" all the way from his home in Mississippi. Despite his illness he lived life with zest and humor that often times brought comfort to those who were trying to comfort him. He quietly battled his disease with courage and strength with few complaints and always a smile on his face. Even during his darkest days he was never at a lost for a good joke or a comforting smile. He was passionate about his devotion to his family. David's beloved wife of 38 years, Linda was truly his one great love. The many years they spent together, the ups and the downs, the sickness and the health, truly gave him the strength to fight as much and as long as he did. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank Carey Fletcher and Minnie Mae Fletcher, two brothers, Randal Peter Fletcher and Thomas Fletcher. To cherish his memories are his loving and devoted wife, Linda Fletcher, daughter and son-in-law Kerri and Bubba Harrist, daughter and son-in-law Robyn and Brian Blaylock, daughter, Rhonda Carter, brother, Don Fletcher and wife Fannie, sister Linda Salsbury and husband Doug, sisters-in-law Maxine Fletcher and Irene Fletcher, brothers-in-law Lavell Dodd and wife Vickie, Rusty Dodd and wife Theresa and Duell Dodd, 6 grand children, Brooklynn & Bailey Harrist, Taylor Antley, Drew Blaylock, Amanda Carter and April Land, 2 great grandchildren and several nephews and nieces and other extended family and dear friends. The family would like thank their many friends, family, nurses and doctors for all of their help, love, support and prayers during this difficult time. "We have had the opportunity that few people get on this earth. God has blessed us to share space and time with a man He designed himself just for us. A man who was a loving husband, a precious father, a wonderful grandfather, uncle, brother, brother-in-law and friend. We all not only have been blessed but we have been divinely favored. Thank you God." "I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith. Henceforth, there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day; and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing."
