ROBERT GALE FLETCHER

Robert Gale Fletcher was born May 12, 1934 in Many, LA and passed away August 
9, 2017 in West Monroe, LA. Bob joined the United States Navy at the beginning 
of his senior year at Fair Park High School, Shreveport, LA. He served in the 
US Navy 1953-57 during the Korean Conflict and completed several overseas tours 
of duty. During this time, he worked as an Aviation Electrician and received 
his GED. After discharge from the US Navy, he attended LA Tech University on a 
scholarship, graduating with a BS in Agricultural Engineering. Bob retired from 
LA Power & Light (Entergy) where he worked as an engineer for 32 years.

A master craftsman, he designed/built beautiful pieces of furniture. Bob could 
install/repair anything from electrical to plumbing to automotive. He was also 
known as a "silver tongued devil" and could write poetry and verse appropriate 
for any occasion. Sometimes his quick wit and observations left family and 
friends speechless, but more often than not, left them with smiles, laughter, 
and great stories to share.

Bob matured into a gentleman with great insight. He treated others as an equal 
and with respect. He enjoyed the company of people, even those who don't fit 
neatly into polite society—the eccentrics, rogues, and even downright 
scoundrels. Bob loved to laugh with friends and family; he often laughed at 
himself. Hardheaded and gruff of voice at times, the real man behind the 
exterior was introspective, funny, kind and supportive, tender of heart, and 
generous to a fault. A man who gave freely of himself to anyone in need, Bob 
dropped whatever he was doing to help someone else.

Throughout the years, Bob and Linda dearly loved each one of their dogs (Honey, 
Beauregard, Bear) and their cat Miss Kitty. Although they had no children 
together, they shared four daughters and seven grandchildren.

Proud of his heritage and family legacy, he was one of those men willing to 
give his experience and knowledge to the next generation. Bob recognized that 
life's choices are rarely simple or straightforward: yes or no, right or wrong; 
they are more often conflictive and intertwined with the decisions made by 
others. He cared deeply about many things and people and had a great desire to 
improve our community and leave the world a better place. He was truly God's 
significant creation and he was loved.
