ROBERT LAURENCE FOMBY

Robert Laurence Fomby passed away peacefully with his family present on July 
20, 2017 at the age of 94. Services will be held Saturday, July 22,2017, 3:00 
PM, in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe, LA with 
Rev. William Smith officiating. Interment will be in the Mulhearn Memorial Park 
Cemetery Mausoleum.

Robert was born in Bernice, La. on October 1st, 1922. He enjoyed a happy 
childhood and told many wonderful stories of his life on the family farm. 
Robert was known to the family as "Snooks" and was truly a member of the 
greatest generation. He served proudly in the Army in World War II, a member of 
Company A, 823rd Battalion of Tank Destroyers. He landed on the shores of Omaha 
Beach in the first wave, on D-Day, in the invasion of France. As his division 
pushed into the interior of France, he was seriously wounded. A true hero to 
his country and his family, he received the Bronze Star for Valor in Action, 
and the Purple Heart. He never discussed his war experiences, only telling 
tales of his training. At the end of the war, he attended Louisiana Tech in 
Ruston, and received his B.A. degree. He retired from federal government 
service at the end of his career.

Robert was devoted to his family, and a doting grandfather. He was a man of 
integrity, ethics, and morality, and passed that legacy to his children and 
grandchildren. His word was always solid, and he was the epitome of a Southern 
gentleman; quiet spoken, mannerly, and honest to a fault. He loved to 
reminiscence about his past, and was a lover of music. He was a gifted carver 
and painter of wooden ducks and left many beautiful pieces of art. In his 
prime, he was an avid quail hunter with his trained dogs.

Holding memories close to their hearts are his wife of 71 years, love of his 
life and his soul mate, Lovie Price Fomby; daughters, Linda Fomby Brady and 
Cindy Fomby Dickinson and husband Dennis. His grandchildren are Kristen Kara 
Brady and Ehren Shane Brady; great grandchildren Arika Lilley, Taylor Williams, 
and Roman Nicholas Brady. He is also survived by one sister, Tressie Lee 
Upshaw, and many nieces and nephews.

Robert was predeceased by his parents, Bertha Tabor and Jesse Fomby, by his 
brothers, Jesse Marvin, William Lee, and James Wilson, and by his sisters, Mary 
Beatrice Fleisher, Doris Marie Crowell, Evelyn Aline Moore, and his grandson, 
Nicholas Daniel Brady.

Pallbearers will be deacons of the church.

Visitation will be 2:00 PM until service time on Saturday at the funeral home.

He was a member of Lakeshore Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may 
be made to Lakeshore Baptist Church.

Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love, that we may sing for joy 
and be glad of all our days. Psalm 90: 14.
