FRANKLIN Dr. Beryl C. Franklin, Professor Emeritus of Biology, Northeast Louisiana University (now ULM), passed away on December 24, 2013. Dr. Franklin was born 10/29/23 in Colly, Ky to Andrew and Annis Franklin. He graduated from Whitesburg High School, earned an A. B. degree from Ky. Wesleyan College, a M.S. degree from the University of Kentucky and a Ph. D. degree from The Ohio State University. As a Teaching Assistant at Ohio State he was chosen in the top 30 teachers at Ohio State and taught for 28 years at Northeast Louisiana University (now ULM). At NLU he was honored as an outstanding professor. Many students said you laughed through the lectures and cried through the exams. Dr. Franklin proudly served his Country in WWII (including the Battle of the Bulge)earning ten medals including two Purple Hearts. Dr. Franklin was active in many organizations serving as Chairman of the March of Dimes; acting in many plays at the Little Theatre, serving as President. He was very active in many Masonic Organizations and was honored as a 33rd degree Mason. In High Twelve International, he was elected to the Board of Trustees for The Wolcott Foundation, Inc., and served as Chairman of the Board for many years. He earned many degrees in the Masonic Organizations, and the Order of the Eastern Star.. He was preceded in death by his Mother, Father, three brothers and one sister. He leaves in mourning his wife, Nancy, of 66 years, and many nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held at First Presbyterian Church, 1201 Stubbs Avenue on February 8, 2014 at 10 a.m. Memorials may be made to the church, KY Wesleyan College in Owensboro, KY, or any charity of your own choosing.
