He was born in Shreveport La. September 4, 1923 to George Watson Franks and Pearl Franks. He was preceded in death by his first wife, and mother of his six children, Mary Lou Hanson Franks; grandson Robert Huck Jr.; brothers Jewel, Marshall, and Tillman Franks; and sister Mary Campisi. He is survived by his wife Mary Louise Franks of Eros, La., brother, Billy Franks of Shreveport, La., sons, Edward Ray Franks Jr. of Waskom, Tx. and wife, Linda, John Franks of Campbell, California and wife, Kathi, and Fred Franks of Red Lion, Pa. He is survived by three daughters, Marilyn Huck of Dallastown Pa. and husband, Bob, Martha Humble of El Dorado, Ar. and husband, Rick, and Mary Ellen Wilson of Sherwood, Ar. Two step sons, Charles Chilton of West Monroe, and Ronnie Chilton of Eros; step daughter, Marilyn McCaa of West Monroe. He is survived by 18 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. He was a member of Oakmont Church of God in Shreveport, La. and a member of First Church of God in El Dorado for 30 years, and has been a member of Liberty Grove Church of God in West Monroe for 10 years. He was a member of the Child Evangelism Fellowship and a Gideon. Ray started a puppet ministry and became children's favorite in Arkansas and the surrounding areas. His puppet ministry reached as far as Guatemala where he helped his brother Billy start a church. He received a community service award from Gov. Bill Clinton and the state of Arkansas in 1988 for his puppet ministry. Mr. Franks was a patriot. He served in the Army Air Corp during World War II, The United States Marine Corp during the Korean War and the Vietnam War. After a total of 34 years of service he retired from the Marine Corp in 1968. He raised and lowered the flag at the El Dorado courthouse everyday for many years. He also put flags out around the courthouse and on military graves for Veterans Day and Memorial Day for many years. He placed thousands of flags of soldier's graves. Visitation will be Monday March 17th from 5-8 p.m. at Kilpatrick Funeral Home in West Monroe, with the funeral being held at 10 a.m. Tuesday March 18th at Kilpatrick Funeral Home in West Monroe. Internment and full military honors will be at 2 p.m. at Forest Park West Cemetery. The Rev. Dalyn Helbling and Rev. Raymond Jones will officiate. His grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Special thanks to hospice nurses at Southern Care. We would like to extend our heartfelt love and gratitude to our hospice nurse Stephanie. The children of Ray Franks would also like to extend their heartfelt love and gratitude to his wife of the last ten years, Mary Louise Franks, for giving our father many more years of life by sharing yours with him.
