RICHARD T. FRITSCHE Mulhearn Funeral Home Sterlington Road, Monroe, LA Funeral services for Dr. Richard T. Fritsche, 71, of Monroe, LA, will be held at 10:00 AM Monday, December 24, 2007, at Jesus the Good Shepherd Catholic Church with Rev. Mark Watson and Msgr. Edmund Moore officiating. Interment will follow in Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe. Dr. Fritsche passed away Friday, December 21, 2007, at St. Francis Medical Center. He was a member of Jesus the Good Shepherd Catholic Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leslie and Ann Fritsche; and brother, Les Fritsche. Dick was a gifted and accomplished mathematician, as a student and a teacher. He received bachelors and masters degrees from St. Louis University and was granted his doctor of philosophy degree from the University of Arizona. Dick spent his entire professional career in the classroom, starting at the University of Dallas. From there, he joined the faculty of Northeast Louisiana State College in 1968 and retired from the school in 1997. He was affectionately known to many as "The Big Guy" which could have easily been a measure of his heart. He was a man of boundless compassion and with a sense of fairness almost to a fault. He generally chose actions over words but he was not one for overt displays to make a point; rather he preferred an understated approach that might be initially overlooked but became all the more meaningful once it was discovered. The Big Guy's extremely dry, insightful and high minded sense of humor was legendary, and that is what we will miss most of all. While he leaves family and friends that will miss him dearly, we can count ourselves among the truly fortunate to have had our lives touched by him. Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Nancy Cox Fritsche; children, Tom Fritsche and wife Robin of Little Rock, AR, and Michael Fritsche and wife Leng of Dallas, TX; two grandchildren, Ann Elizabeth and Thomas Patrick Fritsche; and brother, John Charles Fritsche of Dallas, TX. Visitation will be Sunday from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM and a Vigil Wake service at 7:00 PM at Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made to St. Vincent DePaul or St. Fredrick High School.
