FROST Mulhearn Funeral Home Sterlington Road, Monroe, LA A. V. Frost, a resident of Sterlington, LA, departed this earth on Sunday, December 14, 2008, after a brief illness. He was born on May 15, 1923, in Calhoun, LA, the first son of Fred Houston Frost and Dee King. He is survived by his four children, Marcia Dudley, Charles Frost, James Frost, Ginger Wimberley, five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and one sister Helen Frost. Most of his friends knew him as "Frosty" or simply A.V. He lived in the Monroe area all of his life except for a short period after the war. Although he lived through the depression years, the riches he found in those experiences cast much of the mettle that would form the basis for his strong love of family. Shortly after graduating from Ouachita Parish High School, WWII broke out, and he was one of the first to enlist, joining the Marines and rising to the rank of sergeant before coming home four years later. He met Elsie Mauldin on a trip to visit his aunt in Texas, and soon afterward they married. They loved each other for fifty-two years until her death in 1997. A.V. was very proud of his children, grandchildren, and great- grandchildren. He was an early pioneer in the liquid fertilizer business, working as plant manager for Ouachita Fertilizer from 1955 until he retired in the late 1990s. After retirement he continued to work as a consultant to the company for a number of years. His years of leadership extended to the community as well. He was instrumental in forming the Marine Corps League in Monroe and served as commandant for a number of years. An avid and gifted golfer, A.V. made many friends over the years playing on the local courses. He loved to fish and enjoyed sharing time with his friends at the hunting camp. Those who knew him in later life also knew that he had a profound love for his dogs - Tiger and Trouble, two large white German Shepherds. His children express their appreciation for the kindness and support provided by his friends and caregivers. A memorial service has been planned for February 15, 2009 at the American Legion Hall from 2:30 PM to 3:30 PM in his honor. In lieu of flowers or other remembrances, his family requests that donations be made to the Friends of the Chennault Aviation and Military Museum.
