He had been a resident of Houston, Texas for over 50 years. Gary was originally from West Monroe, where he graduated from high school and immediately joined the United States Air Force. He served his country from 1960-1968, as a Data Services Supervisor, attaining the rank of a Technical Sergeant with the 3565th Navigator Training Wing during the Vietnam War. After his military service, Gary received his bachelor’s degree in finance from Northeast Louisiana University in Monroe. He soon moved to Houston where he worked as an Accountant and Advisor during his professional career in Finance. Throughout his life, Gary loved to travel and found a special interest in World Fairs. He made it a life goal to attend as many World Fairs as he could, no matter where they were held. He took in the full experience of each one he attended and had unique souvenirs from his many travels. Gary is survived by his nephew, Brad Bates (wife Tracey, children Joseph and Samantha); niece, JoBeth Gatewood Valentino (husband Michael); and uncles, aunts, and cousins in West Texas, from where his father originated. Gary is preceded in death by his parents, L.C. and Gwendolyn Talley Fuson; his sister, Linda Fuson Bates; and lifelong friends Terry Dyer, Garland Thibodaux, Johnny Murphy, and Dale Vine. At Gary’s request, a graveside gathering and memorial service will be held on Thursday, October 3, 2024, from 2:00-3:30 p.m., at Roselawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery in the Garden of Assurance in Calhoun, Louisiana, under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, West Monroe. In lieu of flowers, please make monitory donations in Gary’s memory to Tunnel to Towers, Camp Hope, or other nonprofit organizations of your choosing who support our veterans and military.
