Born to Roy V. and Myrtis Crain Gaar on December 21, 1928, in Gaar's Mill, LA. He was graduated from Gaar's Mill High School and joined his family's business at their cotton gin - the last gin to operate in Winn and Jackson Parishes. He and his brothers formed Gaar Brothers which engaged in logging.He joined Louisiana Power and Light where he worked until his retirement in 1984. Jack was very active in Winnfield civic life. He served as President of the Winn Parish Farm Bureau the decade of the 1970's. He had many years of perfect attendance at Winnfield Lions Club and was Lion of the Year in 1975 - 1976. He was recognized by Louisiana Power and Light in 1988 for his years of service on their state safety committee. Mr. Gaar was a long time member of the First Presbyterian Church of Winnfield. Preceding him in death are his wife, Betty Joe Lawley, in 1982; his parents Roy and Myrtis, and two brothers, Earl and Robert. Survived by his son, Dr. Gregory G. Gaar of Tampa, FL, his brother Don (Clare) Garr of Gaar's Mill, his sister-in-law Gloria Echols (John) of Shreveport, LA, and sister-in-law Eloyce Gaar of Denver, CO, eight nieces and nephews and their families, many cousins, and one grand-dog, Guthrie. Services are under the direction of Southern Funeral Home of Winnfield, LA. Friends may visit with the family at the church from 1:00 P.M. until service time. Funeral services will be at First Presbyterian Church at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, Bebruary 3, 2009 with the Reverends Helene Walker and James Walker officiating. Interment will be at Garden Of Memories Cemetery in Winnfield, LA. Pallbearers are Bob Baldwin, David Gaar, Gary Smith, Steven Gaar, West Baldwin, and Drew Gadberry. Honorary pallbearers are the members of the Winnfield Embers Breakfast and Coffee Club.
