WILLIAM B. GATES

William B. "Bill" Gates, 72 years young, passed from this life to his heavenly 
home on March 24, 2016.

Bill was raised in the Mt. Vernon community and lived in West Monroe all his 
life.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Lee and Jessie Gates of West Monroe and 
a brother, Edward Gates from Farmerville.

Survivors include his son, Mike Gates and wife, Renee; brothers, Walter Gates, 
(Verda), Robert Gates (Candy) all from West Monroe; sister-in-law, Velda Gates 
from Farmerville; and special cousin, Nelda Carpenter (Delton) from Dodson, LA; 
plus a host of nephews and nieces.

The memories of a life lived hunting, trapping and fishing will live on in our 
hearts. Bill was a member of Ouachita Baptist Church and loved playing his 
guitar and gospel singing. He lived a simple life unencumbered with the worries 
of the entire world and focused on his church and his son.

Visitation will be Tuesday, March 29, 2016 from 12:00 noon until service starts 
at 3:00 pm at Griffin Funeral Home, 7427 Cypress St. West Monroe. Burial will 
be in Mt. Vernon Cemetery immediately following. Pastor Mike Holloway will 
conduct the service. Pallbearers will be nephews, Randy Gates, Scott Gates, 
Lance Gates, Justin Daniel, John Gates, Chris Gates and cousins, Jerry Harper, 
Kenneth Harper and David Bishop.
