Walker Glidewell, 77, fell asleep peacefully at home and awakened in the presence of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, June 13, 2017. She was born June 25, 1939 in Wisner LA to Hardy and Ernestine Walker. Sylvia loved the Lord and lived a full Christian life. Possessing a true servant's heart, she faithfully cared for family and friends through delicious cooking/baking from scratch, sewing and crafting. A woman of faith and the heart of the Glidewell family, she helped shape their spirituality by her tireless Christian example, and also through various church groups and activities. She was the Minister of Music and Sunday School teacher at Evangel Assembly, a licensed florist, a member of Epps Garden Club and member of Northeast Louisiana Florist Association. She had an early love of music and began playing piano at her childhood church, Lamar Baptist Church, at 12 years old. She loved to play the piano and shared her talent throughout her life by teaching piano lessons to hundreds of students, directing many church plays and cantatas, and by playing at many churches for weddings, funerals and music celebrations "Singings". She loved to serve the Lord her God by sharing her talent to play and sing gospel music, write, read, pray, play with her grandchildren, chat with friends and family, and travel… just to name a few. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, WL Glidewell, who was also her best friend and love of her life. Also surviving are her four children, Marion of Owasso, OK, Paul (Jennifer) of Atoka, TN, Rosemary Redmond (Shannon) and Sharon Whatley (Tony) of West Monroe, LA; eleven grandchildren, TJ, Jason, Morgan, Miranda, Sommer, Amber, Samantha, Wesley, Luke, Grace and George; ten great-grandchildren, Matthew, Landry, Rylie, Kylie, Shelby, Hayden, Victoria, Trinity, Carson and Savoy; three sisters, Pat Johnson, Juanita Lachney and Charlotte Och. Sylvia is preceded in death by her parents, Hardy and Ernestine Walker; one sister, Yvonne Jones; one grandchild, Nathan Tyler Redmond; and one great- grandchild, Zoe Nicole Boyd. Pallbearers are T.J. Whatley, Jason Whatley, Luke Glidewell, Sean Bruner, William Robert and Danny Boyd. Honorary Pallbearers are Matthew Robert and George Glidewell. Visitation is from 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM on Friday, June 16, 2017, at Evangel Assembly. The funeral service will follow the next day at 2:00 PM on Saturday, June 17, 2017, also at Evangel Assembly. Pastor Calvin Stapp and Pastor Leonard Sapp will be officiating. Interment will follow in the Roselawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Calhoun, LA under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home West Monroe, LA.
