She was born in Salisbury, NC on July 25, 1921, the daughter of Ellinor Ramsay Putzel and Charles Lewis Putzel. She graduated from Boyden High School and attended Catawba College in Salisbury. During the war years she worked as a secretary to Representative S. Otis Bland & lived in Washington DC where she met her future husband, Captain Harry T. Goldman, Jr. from Waterproof, LA. They married in Salisbury January 5, 1946, one week after he returned from the war. They lived in Waterproof until her husband's death in 2003. In 2005 she moved to Lambeth House in New Orleans where she enjoyed a happy final chapter in her life. She was the consummate homemaker of the Greatest Generation: cooking, sewing, propagating plants and, as a product of the Great Depression, excelling in creating silk purses from sow's ears. She is survived by her three children, Harry T. Goldman, III (Jean) of Waterproof, Ellinor G. Howard (Doug) of New Orleans, and Rosamond G. Quay (Richard) of Houston; six grandchildren, Jefferson B. Goldman (Amanda), Karen R. Goldman, Ellinor R. Quay, Richard R. Quay, Rosamond R. Howard and D. Douglas Howard, III, a step grandchild Anne S. Howard of Houston, two great grandchildren Jackson C. Goldman and Elizabeth R. Goldman, and many nieces and nephews, all of whom loved her dearly. Her family was her life's work and great joy. Friends in Tensas Parish and in New Orleans will sorely miss her. There will be a graveside service at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 16, 2014 at Natchez City Cemetery in Natchez, MS. Rev. Gregg Riley will be officiating, under the direction of Young's Funeral Home, Ferriday. Memorials may be sent to Tensas Academy, St. Joseph Arts, Christ Episcopal Church in St. Joseph, or a charity of choice .
