Vera Mae Allbritton Grant was born in Tullos, Louisiana, to the union of Wheeler Archibald and Barbara Nugent Allbritton and passed from this life on November 2, 2015. She grew up in Tullos, Louisiana, and graduated from LaSalle High School and from Louisiana College with a B.A. in Education. Vera taught for 25 years in several schools including Tioga High School, LaSalle High School, and Caldwell Parish High School. At Caldwell Parish High School, where she spent the majority of her career, she taught English, Journalism, and was responsible for leading a group of journalism students to produce the school yearbook. Vera Mae Grant was a dedicated Christian. She served the Lord as a deacon's wife and a prayer warrior. She enjoyed organizing church youth trips and senior adult trips and always had a listening ear for someone who was hurting or who needed prayer. Her classroom door was always open for any student who was having a rough day and, after she retired, the door to her home was open to any visitor who needed a special word, hug or prayer. Her family knew her as "Bibba" and that she was interested in every detail of their daily lives because of her love for each one of them. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister, and above all, a faithful wife to her Jimmie to the very end. Mrs. Grant was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Norman Allbritton, two sisters, Evelyn Allbritton and Cordie Newsom, and her spouse of 51 years, Jimmie Lee Grant. She was survived by her daughters: Sonja Grant Carroll and her husband John; Evelyn Grant Parker and her husband Greg; her nine grandchildren: Josh Carroll (Jamie), Jason Carroll (Casey), Janna Carroll, Jade Ritchie, Eleni Ferguson (Jonathan), Gus Hyde (Chasitie Fletcher), Kyle Parker, Kelsey Parker, and Colleen Cain (Dillon); her eight great- grandchildren: Kyndi Carroll; Bentley, Bristol, and Emma Rae Carroll; Lillian and Edwin Ferguson; and Finley and Paisley Cain; and sister, Merle Childress and husband Gerald, and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends by whom she was dearly loved. The family would also like to extend a special thanks to her "daughters" Kathy Thompson and Debra Swim for their love and care for her. Pall Bearers for Mrs. Grant are: Walter Allbritton, Charles Newsom, Danny Childress, Randy Childress, Wilson Curry, Michael Lincecum, Caleb Hatten, and Tim Burris.
