John was a graduate of Neville High School and attended ULM and studied graphic design. He was an employee of McDonald Corporation for many years. John was an artist earning many awards and doing commissioned work. He enjoyed traveling, sport cars, music and family. His wry sense of humor and indomitable courage carried he and his family through his illness. "Quiet minds cannot be perplexed or frightened, but go on in fortune and misfortune - at their own private pace, like a clock in a thunderstorm." He was preceded in death by his fathers: Carl Mitchell Graves and Donald C. Modlin. John is survived by his mother: Sylvia Modlin; daughter: Kaitlin Elizabeth Graves; sisters: Carla Vincent and husband, Carl, Celia Neitz and husband, Tom, and Kristi Hendricks and husband, Gregg; nieces and nephews Curtis Mitchell Rogers, Nickolas Nelson Rogers, Ramsey Wheat Vincent, Hanna L. Doty, Emily Brooke Vincent and Carly Ana Neitz. "God Kissed his lips and he slept." Pallbearers will be: Fred and Wes Ratcliff, Tom Neitz, Carl Vincent, Curtis Rogers and Nick Rogers. Honorary pallbearer will be Johnny Cunningham. "Courage is being scared to death - and saddling up anyway."
