She was born on January 22, 1920 in Lufkin, Texas, and was the fifth child and third daughter of James Byron Roper and Eulala Rebecca McMullen Roper. In 1938, she moved to Bastrop from Lufkin, Texas, to live with her sister and brother-in-law, Delma and Garrett Slomosky, to begin her working career. She later met and married George Edward (Ed) Green. She was preceded in death by her husband of thirty years, Ed Green, co-owner of Green Brothers Dairy. She is survived by her three children: Patricia Green McCarty of Norman, OK; James E. (Jim) and Anna Clare Green of Lakeland, FL; and Drs. Gregory R. (Greg) and Mirta Green of Monroe. Also, she is survived by nine grandchildren: Denise McCarty Gordon, Jay McCarty, Clark E. Green, Clare Green Wilson, James Mayo Green, Katie Green, Cammie Green, Emily Green and Jack Green. Her three great-grandchildren are: Lane Gordon, Mary Claire Gordon and McCall McCarty. Mrs. Green is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Green was an active member of First Baptist Church of Bastrop for nearly seventy years where she taught four- and five-year-olds in Sunday School for forty-five years. She was also active for many years in the Women's Missionary Union, took part in many chruch activities and went on many church-sponsored trips. She enjoyed participating in many social activities, including playing bridge, rook and dominoes. She also possessed a great love of travel. She frequently visited her children in the various places where they lived. She also traveled extensively throughtout the United States and other places, including Canada, Europe and the Holy Land. Funeral services will be held on Saturday May 23, 2009 at 2:00 PM at First Baptist Church. Dr. L.H. McCollough and Rev. Jim Ingram will officiate the services. Visitation will be held on Friday May 22, 2009 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Golden Funeral Home. Pallbearers are: John S. Green, Jr., Robert V. Green, Kenneth Slomosky, John Garrett, Jay McCarty and James Green. Honorary pallbearers are: Richard (Dick) Revels, Jerry Stutts and former employees of Green Brothers Dairy. Loving care-givers over the past seven years have been Pat Goyne, Carolyn Alford and Agnes Scott. Interment will be at Morehouse Memorial Park Cemetery.
