FRANCES ELIZABETH SINCLAIR SAMPLE GRISWOLD


Frances (Fran) Elizabeth Sinclair Sample Griswold, 77, beloved wife, mother, 
grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend passed away January 
10, 2013 in San Dimas CA. She was born on June 16, 1935 as the second daughter 
of Harry Sinclair & Gladys Gwendolyn Toone Sinclair.

She was a member of Fairpark Baptist Church in West Monroe, LA where she held 
many roles, including president or Chairperson of most committee. She 
especially loved the Magdalene Sunday School class, getting to know new 
members over lunch and helping them find their spot at church or in the 
community.

After graduating from Plainview High School, Plainview, TX, Fran was accepted 
to Ponca City Hospital School of Nursing, Ponca City, OK, where she graduated 
in 1959 as a Registered Nurse. Fran held several professional nursing 
positions with several area doctors, clinics and hospitals. Fran retired from 
Glenwood Regional Hospital where she was a surgical nurse and head of the ASU. 
Until just a few years ago, Fran remained active in an area professional 
nursing organization and was instrumental in handing scholarships to deserving 
nursing students in the Monroe/West Monroe/ Ruston area. As much as Fran loved 
her family and friends, and her church, she loved her nurses.

In recent years, Fran took up writing down & sharing her childhood 
experiences. She felt writing was her life of service to others, filled with 
humor & love of life.

Fran was preceded in death by her first husband, Frank Sample, her second 
husband, Kenneth E. Griswold, Sr., her son Daniel Sample, her sisters, JoAnne 
Sinclair Lucas Struble and LeVeta Sinclair Campbell, and her brothers James 
Sinclair and Donald Sinclair.

Left to cherish her memory are son, Jay Sample and wife Nancy Mahood Sample 
(Upland, CA), step sons, Kenneth E Griswold, Jr. & wife Paula Rowland Griswold 
(Ruston, LA), Richard Dwight Griswold & wife Kathryn Muller Griswold (Tupelo, 
MS), Brian Kent Griswold & wife Dixie Elam Griswold (Ruston, LA) & Barry Keith 
Griswold (Ruston, LA), a step daughter, Janice M Griswold (Miami, FL), her 
brother John Sinclair (Salinas, CA), and brother-in-law, Jerry Campbell. 

Fran is also survived by 10 grandchildren, Benjamin Sample, Matthew Sample 
(both of Victorville, CA), Wade Griswold and wife Elizabeth (Orlando, FL), 
Natalie Grubb (Shreveport, LA), Kenneth Griswold and wife Amanda (Tupelo, MS), 
David Griswold and wife Meg (Nashville, TN), Allison Griswold (Birmingham, 
AL), Cade Griswold (Ruston, LA), Jamie Scoggin and husband Jonathan 
(Shreveport, LA), Erin Henderson and husband Matt (Ruston, LA) and 7 great 
grandchildren, Will Griswold, Rebecca Griswold, Shelby Griswold, Lucas Grubb, 
Calvin Griswold, Kensey Scoggin & Jon Walker Scoggin.

A Memorial Services celebrating the life of Frances (Fran) Elizabeth Sinclair 
Sample Griswold was held Monday January 14, 2013 at Fairpark Baptist Church in 
West Monroe, LA with many, many of her family and friends, just as she would 
have liked. To honor Fran's wishes, in lieu of flowers, please consider making 
a donation in her name to the New Sanctuary Building Fund - Fairpark Baptist 
Church, 4412 White's Ferry Road; West Monroe, LA 71291.
