Mrs. Guerriero, 102, passed away July 12, 2009 at Glenwood Regional Medical Center after a brief illness. She was born in Louisville, Kentucky on September 3, 1906. She was married to Charles Pasquale Guerriero, Jr. in 1927 and they were married for 43 years until his death in 1970. Mrs. Guerriero lived in her Monroe home on Speed Avenue for 81 years, lovingly built for her by her husband, Charlie, before their marriage in 1927. Juanita was especially proud that their home was placed on the National Register of Historic Places. Mrs. Guerriero was also preceded in death by her parents, Jessie and Joseph Mundo; her brother, Francis Joseph Mundo, Jr.; and her son, Dr. Charles Pasquale Guerriero, III. Survivors include her daughters, Mary Louise Crenshaw of West Monroe, LA, and Katharine Baugh and son-in-law, Jack Baugh, of Groves, TX; and daughter-in- law, Deborah Guerriero. She was lovingly known as "Ming" to her 13 grandchildren, Terri Crenshaw Slaughter, Fred "Bunky" Crenshaw, Lisa Crenshaw Bonasso, Sally Crenshaw, Charlie Crenshaw, Tom Billy Crenshaw, Becky Baugh Palermo, Johnny Baugh, Paula Guerriero O'Brien, Tina Guerriero Peyton, Shelly Guerriero Lipscomb, Charles "Skipper" Guerriero, IV, and Heather Pollock. Ming also had 26 great grandchildren, and 6 great-great grandchildren. Mrs. Guerriero attended St. Matthew Catholic Church from 1913 until she became a charter member of Jesus the Good Shepherd Catholic Church. She was a Good Shepherd parish member and a lifetime and Past Grand Regent member of the Catholic Daughters of America St. Matthews Court 1144. Juanita was the last living graduate of the class of 1923 from Ouachita Parish High School. As a homemaker, Mrs. Guerriero was PTA president of both St. Matthew's School and Neville High School. Mrs. Guerriero was an accomplished seamstress and designed and made clothes for her daughters and herself. Mrs. Guerriero also spent many years working in Monroe children's shops, Kelso's and Dee Dee's, and won many awards for her creative window designs. She was also a past president of the Business Professional Women of America. Juanita was an avid traveler and visited throughout the United States and Canada as well as the Holy Land, Ireland, China, Japan, Thailand, and Australia. Juanita had a love of entertaining and always had lots of homemade candy and cookies during Christmas and holiday seasons, and her family has followed in her footsteps with their baking talents. The grandchildren's fondest memories of Ming's kitchen were of ginger ale and fresh cherries in the refrigerator. The "kids" dining table set up in the kitchen for family dinners was a favorite place for cousins to congregate and "cut up". Homemade sourdough bread was also her specialty, and she had it ready for family members and many church activities until she was no longer able to do so. Mrs. Guerriero celebrated her 100th birthday in 2006, and was given a proclamation by the Mayor of Monroe. Many family members and friends attended her 100th birthday party at the Monroe American Legion Home. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Bunky Crenshaw, Tom Billy Crenshaw, Johnny Baugh, and Charles Guerriero, IV, and great grandsons, Jim B. Slaughter and Dusty Crenshaw. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the River Cities Humane Society, Jesus the Good Shepherd Catholic Church, or your favorite charity. The family wishes to express their gratitude to caretakers at Landmark Nursing Center in West Monroe, the staff at Glenwood Hospital, and her many caretakers at home, especially Ella Jones File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/la/ouachita/obits/g/guerrier382nob.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.net/lafiles/ File size: 4.7 Kb
