HAMILTON Kilpatrick Funeral Home Ruston, LA Memorial services for Bill F. Hamilton, 94, of Ruston, formerly of Downsville, will be 2:00 P.M. Sunday, March 29, 2009 at Temple Baptist Church in Ruston, LA. Officiating will be Reverends Dale Oden, Rick Byargeon, and Jim Benbrook. Private interment will be held prior to the service in the Downsville Cemetery, Downsville, LA under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Ruston. Mr. Hamilton died Wednesday, March 25, 2009 at the Northern Louisiana Medical Center in Ruston. Mr. Hamilton was born January 17, 1915 in Dubach. He was a graduate of Northwestern State University, Natchitoches where he was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity and a graduate of Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, where he was a member of Phi Delta Kappa. He was drafted in 1941 and served for 52 months in the U.S. Army Air Force during WWII. He was principal of Downsville High School from 1955-1968. Prior to becoming principal he coached the various high school ball teams and taught typing and bookkeeping. In 1969, he became coordinator of the Union Parish Media Center until his retirement in 1971. He was involved in many functions of the Downsville community. He served on the town council for 13 years, on the Boy Scout Council, and coached Dixie League. He was a deacon in the Downsville Baptist Church and as well as a teacher in the church Sunday School and Training Union. He also loved to hunt, fish, and play golf. He was preceded in death by his infant son, Thomas James Hamilton, Downsville; his parents, J.C. and Emma Smith Hamilton, his brothers, James P. and Eugene J. Hamilton, all of Dubach; and his grandparents, Dr. James M. and Julia Calhoun Hamilton of Downsville, and Dr. L. P. and Elizabeth Findley Smith, of Dubach, LA. Survivors include his loving wife of 64 years, Iwilla Bossier Hamilton; his son, Fred Hamilton and wife, Freida all of Ruston; his grandson, Robert Hamilton and wife, Lenora of Dallas, TX; his brother, Joe B. Hamilton and wife, Jackie of Dubach; nieces, Nancy Green of West Monroe and Elaine Rupert and husband, Greg of Winnfield; nephew, Joe B. Hamilton, Jr. and wife Vicky of Dubach; several great-nieces and nephews and a host of cousins and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Temple Baptist Church, Ruston, LA; Downsville Baptist Church, Downsville, LA; the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer, Ruston, LA; Louisiana Baptist Children's Home, Monroe, LA; or the charity of one's choice.
