HAMMETT Funeral services for Winford B. Hammett, 79, of Oak Grove, LA will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, February 7, 2013, at Pioneer Baptist Church with Bro. William Fowler officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Corner Cemetery. Mr. Hammett was born on November 9, 1933, in Oak Grove, LA and passed away on February 4, 2013. He was a graduate of Forest High School, La. Tech University, LSU, and Northeast Louisiana University with various advanced degrees in education. He pursued a career in education that spanned forty-two years including teaching in Baton Rouge, Ouachita, and West Carroll Parish. He was Elementary Supervisor for West Carroll Parish for the last twenty-four years of his career. He also enjoyed farming. Mr. Hammett is survived by his loving wife of fifty-one years, Sylvia Hammett, daughter Pamela Shelton and husband Marty, son David Hammett and wife Melanie, grandchildren Brian Shelton, Courtney Dye and husband Joey, and Hailey Hammett, and great-grandchild Abigail Dye. He is also survived by brothers Lavelle Hammett and wife Mary Lou, Glen Hammett and wife Margie, sister Ernestine Howell and husband S.T., sister-in-laws Betty Jo Hammett, Christine Flowers and husband Ron, brother-in-law Charles Little, III, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by parents, Ernest and Tyna Hammett, and brother Earl Lee Hammett. Mr. Hammett loved his Lord and served him faithfully. He was a Deacon at Pioneer Baptist Church. He was a loving husband and devoted father who cherished his family beyond measure. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 6, 2013, at Cox Funeral Home, Oak Grove, La. Pallbearers will be Mike Ross, Buddy Ross, Ted Ross, Earl Bankston, Jerry Dosher, Randy Hammett, and Jason Flowers. Honorary pallbearers will be Luke Rye, Dobbin Plunkett, Bobby Nicholson and Quitman Durbin.
