He was born in Camden, NJ on March 14, 1924, the son of Wilhelmina and Joseph Hardwick. He was preceded in death by his wife Frances Anne Hardwick of Albuquerque, NM. He is survived by his son, Jon William Hardwick and his wife Mary Amanda Hardwick, of Monroe, LA; his daughter, Martha Anne Hardwick of St. Michaels, MD; special nephew, Halsey W. Arbogast of Guasti, CA; four grandchildren: Rachel Anne Alarid of Silver Spring, MD; Renee Aurelia Alarid of Arlington, VA; William Mead Hardwick and his wife Felicia Mary of Dallas, TX; Jon Marshall Hardwick of Monroe, LA; two brothers: Dr. Robert W. Hardwick of Colville, WA ; Joseph R. Hardwick and his wife, Margaret Ann, of Gig Harbor, WA; one sister: Barbara H. Albert and her husband, Joseph, of Idaho Falls, ID. He was a graduate of Gonzaga University in Spokane, WA and received his DDS from Creighton University in Omaha, NE. He completed postgraduate work in oral surgery at Bethesda Naval Dental School in Bethesda, MD. He was a member of the US Navy Dental Core where he served as Senior Dental Officer on the USS Hornet of the Seventh Fleet in the Pacific Theatre during the Korean Conflict. He retired as Lieutenant Commander in 1958, and established his private dental practice in Albuquerque. He was actively involved in the American Dental Association, the New Mexico Dental Association, and the La Mesa Medical Center during the years of his active practice in Albuquerque. He was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity. John moved to Lake Bruin in Tensas Parish in 1993, after retiring from his dental practice in Albuquerque. He enjoyed playing the violin in the St. Joseph Orchestra in its early years and participating in the tutoring program at the Tensas Detention Center. He was a member of the American Legion of Newellton, LA, Christ Episcopal Church and Rotary International in St. Joseph, LA. His dry wit and gently spirit will be remembered by all who knew him. Funeral services are under the direction of French's Mortuary in Albuquerque. A graveside memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 27, 2007, at 10:00 AM at Sunset Memorial Cemetery in Albuquerque, NM.
