HARGROVE Memorial services for Eugene E. Hargrove, age 87, of Monroe will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, January 27, 2015, at Lakeshore Baptist Church, proceeded by visitation at 1:00 PM. Brother William Smith will officiate the services with a full honor guard. Eugene Hargrove was born in Sebastian, TX on April 26, 1927 to John and Amy Hargrove and passed away January 23, 2015 with loved ones by his side. His death is preceded by his parents, his first wife, Doris May Hargrove; his mother-in-law, Olga Sumrow; and niece, Katherine Vatteroot. He is survived by his wife, Beatrice "Bea" Hargrove; three children, daughter, Laura Washer and husband Clyde of West Monroe, LA; sons, Lloyd E. Hargrove and wife Sharon of Monroe, LA and Carl Hargrove and wife Jocelyn of Paisley, FL; five grandchildren, Caitlin May, Deanna Washer, Kelsey Hargrove, Morgan Hargrove and Benjamin Hargrove; three great grandchildren, Kayla, Drake, and Landry; sister, Katherine Hall and husband Hal; and niece, Patty Bostwick and husband Alan. Eugene enjoyed a full, adventurous life, proudly serving his country in the navy during WWII and serving as a fighter pilot and instructor in the Korean and Vietnam wars. Retiring from the military, he went on to work as a Child Support Officer and obtained master's degrees in social work and gerontology. In his retired life, he enjoyed working crossword puzzles and socializing with friends and family. He never met a stranger, brought gifts of love and laughter to many, and will be greatly missed. He enjoyed quoting the Latin saying "Illegitimi non carborundum" as well as "Been there, done that." In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Northeast Louisiana Food Bank.
