Reverends James Carson, Barry Joyner, and Brad Delaughter will officiate. Friends may gather at the church for fellowship beginning at 1:00 pm Saturday, January 17. Evelyn Ruth Harlon joined her beloved husband Charles in glory on Sunday, January 11, 2015 in DeRidder, Louisiana. Born on October 1, 1933 in Hico, Louisiana to O.H. and Iwa Gilbert, she was a graduate of Hico High School and Louisiana Tech University. She was a dedicated educator for more than thirty years teaching at elementary schools in Texas and Louisiana. A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Mrs. Harlon delighted in serving her Lord by supporting her husband's pastoral ministry. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, bible study, prayer, and the company of friends and family. Mrs. Harlon is preceded in death by her husband of fifty-one years, Rev Charles Harlon; her parents; brothers, John D. Gilbert and James H. Gilbert, and sister-in law, Bea Fontenot. Survivors include one daughter, Julia Harlon of Shreveport; son, Alan Harlon of DeRidder; granddaughter, Brooke Shirley of Ruston; grandson, Chance Harlon of DeRidder as well as a host of nieces and nephews. She had most recently been a resident of DeRidder, Louisiana and Shreveport, Louisiana. The family wishes to thank the many friends who prayed, visited and offered other acts of support during Mrs. Harlon's illness. Special thanks are also extended to the physicians and staff of Beauregard Memorial Hospital, Heart of Hospice, Westwood Manor Nursing Home, and Promise Hospital of Shreveport for the care and kindness they provided. Rather than flowers, Mrs Harlon preferred any memorials be offered to local churches or to the Louisiana Baptist Children's Home.
