HARRIS ROSE-NEATH FUNERAL HOME SHREVEPORT, LA Joseph (Joe) A. Harris, 88, of Shreveport, LA and formerly of West Monroe, LA and San Antonio, TX passed away Saturday, December 8, 2007 after a lengthy illness. Funeral services celebrating Joe's life will be held 2:30 PM, Tuesday, December 11, 2007 at Rose-Neath Marshall Street Chapel. Officiating will be Dr. Larry Williams of Broadmoor Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Rose-Neath Cemetery, Swan Lake Road, Bossier City, LA. The family will receive visitors from 1:30 PM until service time. Mr. Harris was born in Miami, AZ on June 15, 1919, to the late Aaron and Mayme Harris. Joe married his high school sweetheart, Vivian Hannsz, on October 12, 1939. Joe was a member and Deacon of Broadmoor Baptist Church, and served over 50 years as Deacon in various other churches, including First Baptist Church of West Monroe. He loved the Lord, taught his children to trust in the Lord and will be remembered for his inspirational Bible teaching. Joe was a faithful husband and the BEST father and grandfather ever! Mr. Harris began his career in 1939 with United Pipeline and retired after 40 years as the corporate Personnel Director of United Energy Resources. A veteran of WWII, he proudly served our country in the U.S. Navy from 1944 - 1946. Joe was a published poet and exceptional motivational speaker. Mr. Harris was also a member of The United Way, Rotary International and National Exchange Club. Preceding Joe in death are his parents, Aaron and Mayme King Harris and one sister and brother-in- law, Lucille Sachnowitz and her husband Sam. Left to cherish Joe's memory are his loving wife of 68 years, Vivian Hannsz Harris of Shreveport, LA; his children, William A. Harris, Sr. and wife Julia and Martha H. Jackson and husband Howard, all of Monroe, LA and Carolyn Lipsey and husband Fred of Shreveport, LA; grandchildren: William A. Harris, Jr., Joseph Harris, Elizabeth Jobe, Dianne McIntosh, Ric Lipsey and Jamie Jones and 10 great- grandchildren. The family appreciates Dr. Alan Borne, Gwen Swan and the staff of Live Oak for their compassionate care and Gordon Hinton for his faithful visits. The family wishes to extend a special thanks to our angel Brenda Mims who took such good care of Joe during his illness. Joe would encourage us to remember the family scripture: Romans 8:28, " We know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those called according to His purpose."
