WILBURN M. HARRIS

MULHEARN FUNERAL HOME, RAYVILLE, LA

Funeral services for Mr. Wilburn M. Harris, retired Chief of Police of 
Rayville, will be held Monday, March 30, at 10:00 AM at First Baptist Church, 
Rayville, LA with Dr. Ernest Winburn officiating. Interment will follow in 
Rayville Masonic Cemetery, under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home of 
Rayville.

Mr. Harris was born August 24, 1928, in Louise, MS and passed away surrounded 
by his family at the Richardson Medical Center in Rayville on March 28, 2009.

He served the Town of Rayville as Chief of Police for 27 years before retiring 
in 1990. For the past nine years he worked as a Deputy of the Richland Parish 
Sheriff's Department. He gave of himself willingly to the people of Rayville 
and the entire parish, and he was always eager to help anyone in need.

Mr. Harris was a Master Mason, serving as Master of the Lodge twice, and he 
was a Shriner. He was also a member of First Baptist Church Saints Alive. He 
was also a veteran, serving in Occupied Japan.

Preceding him in death were his parents; W.B. and Coleen Harris, his son 
Billy, two brothers; Cecil and Lonnie Harris and a grandson.

Mr. Harris is survived by his wife of almost 60 years Geraldine Boyd Harris 
and his children; Karen Harris Jones and husband Joe of Lake Charles, Betsy 
Harris of Calhoun, Scott Harris and wife Allyson of Monroe, and Paula Burks of 
Calhoun. His love and joy were his grandchildren; Brian Donham and wife Kim, 
Connor and Carter Harris, Amy Jones and Joanie Howard and husband Patrick, and 
his five great grandchildren; Cameron, Noah, Luke, Landry, and Annie. Mr. 
Harris is also survived by two sisters; Ruth Weeks and Renie Triplett, a 
brother; Lamar Harris, many nieces and nephews, and special friends; Troy, 
Joann, and Blake Dennard.

Pallbearers will be Chief of Police Willie Robinson, Gene Sorey, Tommy 
Nicholson, Tommy Price, Bobby Hales, and Troy J. Dennard.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Emmett Brown, Jr., Floyd Bruce Boughton, Billy 
McGlothin, Allen Thompson, B.J. McKnight, and Sheriff Charles McDonald.

Mr. Harris was known by several titles; Chief to many people, husband to one, 
Daddy to three, brother to three, and uncle to many.

We will miss his pretty blue eyes, his sweet smile, his smoked hams, and his 
corny jokes. As his granddaughter Amy said, "We are lucky to have known that 
no matter what, no one loved us more than Paw did."

The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of Dubuis 
Hospital, and LSU Medical Center in Shreveport and the Richardson Medical 
Center in Rayville for their loving care of our dad and husband.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church Signs of 
Life Fund, Rayville, LA, or to The McDade House, 1825 Warrington Place, 
Shreveport, LA 71101.
