HEAD Kilpatrick Funeral Home West Monroe, LA Funeral services for Samuel Durward Head will be at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, May 26, 2009, in the Chapel of the Kilpatrick Funeral Home of West Monroe with Rev. Mark Fenn and Dr. Woods Watson officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Calhoun, LA, under the direction of the Kilpatrick Funeral Home of West Monroe. Mr. Head was born May 17, 1922, at Okaloosa, LA, and passed away on Saturday, May 23, 2009, in West Monroe. A veteran of World War II, he served with the US Army in the Philippines as a Corporal in the 96th Infantry Division, 381st Regiment, 3rd Battalion. A salesman for Monroe Wholesale Drug Company for 56 years, he was a Mason and Shriner for over 50 years. Mr. Head was a member of the First Baptist Church of West Monroe where he served as a Sunday School teacher. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Carl and Bernard Head; a sister, Marjorie Rawls; and a sister-in-law, Valine Head. Mr. Head leaves behind his wife of 62 years, Edith Mann Head; children, Brenda Hightower and husband, Ronnie, of Chatham, LA, and Kenneth Head and wife, Linda, of West Monroe; four grand children; nine great grandchildren of which one being very special was named after him, Carson Samuel Wheelis; two brothers, John Allen Head of Shreveport and J.Y. Head of West Monroe; a sister, Hilda Jean Burns of Katy, TX; and a number of nieces and nephews. Pallbearers are two grandsons, Ron Hightower and Brian Head; Lonnie Fuller, Waylon Wheelis, Bobbie Wilson, and Bobby Trailkill. Honorary pallbearers are his Sunday School class. Visitation will be at Kilpatrick Funeral Home of West Monroe, LA on Monday, May 25, 2009, from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM. "He was a man who loved his family.
